Can someone explain to me why Turkey which is also a muslim country can go bold with their romantic dramas and be accepted by their audiences who are predominantly muslims. Here is the kicker ishq-e-memnu was controversial and appreciated but when a similar concept was attempted in India, hindi TV that can go bold with romance was not having it because it was too much even for us to handle, a wife having an affair with her own step son was torching down all acceptable rules of acceptable behaviour. BTW you want steamy scenes that show got it all.
What is the problem in Pakistan, is it because of sharia law?
I guess that's because their society has totally westernised now. Their culture is quite a stark contrast to Islamic values. Their shows have romance on par with American tv shows, but the same storylines as our ITV shows have.
Yes, Dil Sambhal Jaa zara was rejected by our audience as well, because inherently both countries share the same values. Partition only happened in 1947.

Loving all the discussions, pls keep them coming!
My 2 cents-
I heard this from Mr.Baradwaj Rangan(one of my most fav. crictics) that the director is not the author but its us the audience who is , he/she maybe the captain of the ship while making it but its the consumer who is the ultimate reciever of all the information. And we all interepret it in the way we feel it is right and all our conditioning, internal and external biases feed into our reviews. And no wonder we all have different reactions to the same drama.Truth be told,I am enjoying this drama! Art is essentially subjective u see :)
I am personally attracted to characters with deep human flaws. And I like dramas/ films that revolve around such characters,it makes for an engaging watch! My first tryst with movies was a Maniratnam film and since then I view/understand movies/drama through his lens. Most of his films are rather unconcerned with the plot and focus most of the energy on characters. He establishes their world in the very beginning by showing you their daily routines or little sections of that particular world to give you the full view of that world and thats it! and now it's left to us(the audience) to meet the characters midway. Too many dialogues are a put off for me, everything shouldnt be embedded in dialogues and monologues. And this drama has rightly established their world for me, I understand where the characters are coming from and whats making them behave this way! I dont need a monologue from Meerub to know what she is feeling and I also dont want Murtasim to explain his actions to Meerab because that will not be in line with his personality. Both Murtasim and Meerub are very well written characters imo. Their imperfections are only adding an unexplainable and undefinable appeal! I dislike protagonists that sound holier-than-thou, I love to see them making mistakes, being swayed by emotions and prone to mood swings...and that's why I find this couple n this drama more engaging than entertaining!
From the start,Meerub finds Murtasim annoying and cocky but at no point was she afraid of him or felt uncomfortable being with him (so many scenes established that- be it the hospital one or the scene where she asks him to take her to Hyd). She takes him for granted in a weird way! Her life imploded after the infamous reveal and no normal person would come out unscathed from that! This truth has scarred her for life and she is traumatized. It will not heal anytime soon! She has got major trust issues now because parents betrayal is the most painful one and she is not going to give anyone another chance. Hence the conflict of emotions- she tears up and is overwhelmed with emotions whenever Murtasim utters those lovey dovey dialogues and the next hour she is back to her irrational self! It is self-preservation! And I believe she has every right to be irrational at this stage in her life:)
Wherein Murtasim is still the same person-Egoistic,confident,cocky. He hasnt changed but rather his approach has, expecially after the Walima incident.
And a special mention to Yumna and Wahaj, they are slaying it n how! Wahaj is portraying angst so well , that garden scene in particular where he tears up...wow just wow!
Hayeeee can we start a new thread just to discuss each and every movie of mani sir, no one can show romance as this man does, he is just the master at it.
As for the show , hmmm u have interesting take on things!
To me it’s still a question what made Murtasim go behind meerab ? him softening based on her circumstances is fine , but all this romance what was trigger ? is it just they are married and she is his wife and he wants bygones to bygones and start afresh? If so he is coming too hard here !
As far as meerab ,She has her heart at right place but she is dealing in unknown territory with her urban take on feudal politics and khandani rivayat. But I don’t find her bratty but more cute and naive, she is strong and amusing like Eliza Doolittle and no MK is less egoistic and more humane then Henry, which adds more charm to character.
and now he is behind ex-biwi also 🤣Originally posted by: Kumuda-123
