The point here is not that meerab's initial reaction was wrong rather her inability to adapt and think wisely. And the reason why she is usually bashed by the audience.

Yes. Women go through a lot. And it's not something to be taken lightly of, but we are talking about general audiences' expectations about what they want to see. They want her to make best out of her situation cause her situation is not as drastic as the ones you have mentioned. So her misery is being stretched way too far and the fact that writing of Meerab's character is not so well add to it.
