Song : Aa Laut Ke Aaja Mere Meet

Lyrics : Bharat Vyas

Music : S.N. Tripathi

Singer : Mukesh

I don't know if anyone else will agree with me but I feel Mukesh had a naturally melancholic voice. Something like - 'Awaaz Mein Bohot Dard Tha...'

Anyone with me on this? Did it make 0.2% sense?🤡

I love this song, and Lata's rendition is nothing short of awe-inspiring. The twists and turns in the tune - goodness, what a composition by SJ! It's damn difficult to sing, believe me I've tried ,

The story goes that when Lata heard Chota sa baalma (Raagini 1958) based slightly on raag Tilang, composed by OPN for her sister, Asha, she requested Shankar Jaikishen to compose a song for her in the same raag. S-J obliged & how!

PS: I'm informed that this one is more pure Tilang than the former.

Song: Sajan sang kahe neha lagaye

Film: Main nashe mein hoon (1959)

Music: Shankar Jaikishen

Lyrics: Shailendra

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Sidenote: An inebriated RK dancing away to glory is a sight to behold!

Another beautiful, beautiful composition by the maestro Anil Biswas. The tune itself is not sad per se, but something about the musical arrangement brings out the melancholy and the lyrics are steeped in sorrow and regret of the loss of those carefree days filled with love and laughter. Madhubala's expressions say it all!

Lata has admitted more than once that it was from Anilda that she learned the technique of how to pause for breath when singing so its not audible to listeners.

Just the way she sings this beginning refrain

Kya khabar thi ki mohabbat mein ye din aate hain

jise hum apna banate hain, woh tadpaate hain

Song: Woh din kahaan gaye bata

Film: Tarana (1951)

Music: Anil Biswas

Lyrics: D.N. Madhok

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
