I was so disappointed with todays episode. So far in the competition, 4 have been eliminated and we still see dishes like shakshouka, frittata and nargisi kofta. Where’s the innovation?
Atleast Priyanka, Suvarna and Naziya tried something different. Even Shanta atleast made a cloud bread. But none of the dishes wowed me today.
There’s so much they could make - ouef cocotte, pastel de nata, soufflé, pavlova. Closer home, the Parsis make so many dishes with egg, they could’ve used that with some variation. Maybe something like akoori/anda bhurji stuffed in steamed buns/baked buns.
I’m surprised at Avinash. None of his dishes were working, he should’ve tried something else, instead he just tried to still continue. The best thing about eggs is how fast they cook. He could’ve still made something like devilled eggs, just work on making a good filling.
If I were to talk about each of the dishes -
Shanta - when she said she’s making shakshouka with Indian spices, I was perplexed. I mean what is going to be so different? Middle eastern spices are quite similar to ours. I’m glad she made a cloud bread to redeem her otherwise simple dish. I’m glad she added a sweet dish, otherwise to me her dish would be extremely simple.
Priyanka - I forgot what her dish was called, but it looked like something I would eat. Looked like a hearty dish. Wasn’t great to look at. But she gets points for innovation.
Naziya - when I heard egg rasmalai and egg halwa, I was stunned. I’ve heard of egg rasmalai before but what is an egg halwa? I was imagining a sweet version of scrambled eggs! Unfortunately there were some mistakes in her dish, according to the judges. But atleast we got to see something that’s not common.
Suvarna - we’ve seen egg ravioli in Masterchef before (can’t remember what season). But it’s not an overdone dish. I won’t say it’s the most innovative, but it’s atleast a dish that requires some time and effort. I like that she didn’t make a sauce full of flavours, but stuck to simple butter and garlic to let egg take center stage.
Avinash - a nargisi kofta sounds easy, no wonder he chose it. But if he noticed that the meat wasn’t binding, he should’ve quickly changed to something else. In fact, he could’ve salvaged that egg and done something with a boiled egg. Clearly, the meat looked dry during tasting. Not appetizing. There were no comments on his frittata, so don’t know how it was.
Avinash clearly was the weakest today and deserved to be eliminated.
On a better note, Sony has learnt from its mistakes, and the precap didn’t tell us who’s in the black apron challenge. Atleast some suspense!
