Happy Centenary Dilip Kumar sahab

Sometimes there are no words to even describe his performance. As some scenes are executed perfectly.

I first saw him in the end part of Madhumati where he asks Madhu misunderstanding her to be the lookalike about her knowledge regarding Madhu's death.

But then it was Karma who made me a fan of him. I was completely surprised by the whole story but did not understand the story much as I was young but I loved his character.

Once my mom told me to find some old songs for her and as I was not into watching old movies so I had hard time finding the songs that she loved as I dont know which song belonged to which movie.

And that's how I started looking for the songs and while checking the movies I sometimes do read the plot some looked interesting and some boring but when you end up watching it, it actually feels amazing.

For me I only knew Dilip Kumar the actor in Madhumati and Karma.

And it was after watching his movies and also reading his biography at the same time. I actually got to know the reel and real person.

And for me I love all his movies some characters more than the others

I was actually so excited to make a special post for this day but due to unforseen circumstances I had to drop the idea. If things settles I will post it on my insta and yt

Just a point too bad that his movie Shikwa is not complete and only has a few reels or else it would have been better than Shaheed.

And secondly his unreleased movie which still doesnt see any light of release Aag ka Dariya. Wish this movie gets released soon as his last ever screen presence.

And also I jjust wish if I can get a subtitle for his movie Sagina the Bengali version as his chemistry with his wife Saira and the story also seems very interesting than the Hindi version.

Dilip Kumar could generate great chemistry with all his costars but his chemistry with Madhubala will always remain special (to me at least).

Film; Sangdil (1952)

Music: Sajjad Hussein, Lyrics: Rajinder Kishen

Singers: Talat Mahmood and Lata Mangeshkar

Sangdil was based on Jane Eyre with DK playing Rochester's role. The music was by Sajjad who was considered a perfectionist and a taskmaster, he didn't compose too many soundtracks and Sangdil was one of the few he did. This song is so beautiful - it ebbs and flows like a stream cascading from the hills.

Another actress that Dilip Kumar shared fantastic chemistry with imo was Meena Kumari. Known more for their tragic roles, it is therefore surprising that their collaborations were not so heavy handed as one would expect. Here's a beautiful song that I have always loved.

A remake of the MGR Tamil hit, Malaikallan, this was one of the movies DK signed after he was advised by doctors to do some light-hearted roles to offset the effects of doing too many tragic roles.

It would be remiss not to include Vyjayanthimala. The actress and DK did many films together especially after his fallout with Madhubala, and shared a fabulous chemistry.

Based on raag Lalit, this beautiful song is an ode to Taj Mahal as a symbol of true love.

Happy Centenary, Dilip Kumar!

I was never a huge fan of his or an ardent follower because his genre of movies were not up my alley. I just had always known about him but the first time I ever watched his performance was in Mughal-e-Azam. And needless to say, I was spell-bound. He has given such great stories to Indian Cinema and portrayed such variety of roles that it's commendable.
