I hope it's ok to write this here, if not I will delete it..
I just finished watching my 2nd Pakistani serial - Gul-e-rana. I found it extremely difficult to watch yet strangely compelling, perhaps because the leads really aced the acting. The toxicity of the ML was simply too much for me - it was so open and raw and unabashed. Every time he said or did something degrading to the FL or to any of the other female characters, I felt my skin crawl. The casual manhandling, the forced marriage, the derogatory remarks..it was misogyny at a level I have quite literally never seen.
Feroze Khan did a great job with this character. He is extremely expressive. Even the tiniest reaction shows on his face. He seems like such a natural to me, acting seems to come easily and effortlessly to him. But here it was Sajal Aly who blew me away. Her eyes were like limpid pools reflecting so many conflicting emotions. The core of steel she possessed under that soft and feminine exterior..the fact that she gave as good as she got..that she was openly dismissive and contemptuous of the ML..that she never softened towards him even when he tried to change and mend his ways. I was in awe of the way she portrayed this role at such a young age👏In fact FK also must have been very young at the time this serial came out. Commendable acting by both.
About sajal..this may be ur first impression of her but she is generally playing 2 kind of roles ..one is Gul e rana types the other is negative lead..she plays both with equal conviction ..her character is very similar to ishq e la which I abs loved...she played a righteous journalist ... yakeen ka safar which again is a landmark show of hers ..infact a must watch (ignore the first 14 epis but😆 Too much pain) , and ye dil mera....alif also I loved ..but I must say she is kind of..a limited actress..sometimes in paki shows the fl is written really well.rana was also written nicely ..in all fk shows , the fl is written well..his toxicity is balanced with their strength .
