Monga is at Adelaide Oval, and he's watching India train. "Surya and Rahul having a hit at the nets. Karthik standing and watching. Is that a sign he's out?"
"If England wins, it's 1992. Pak scraping through to semis, beating NZ in semis and facing Eng at MCG. If India wins, it's 2007. India having their best batter at 4, beating Pak in a close game in league stage, beating the reigning 50 over champions in semis and facing Pak who beat NZ in the semis"
The mood in the England camp will be much different in case of this knockout scenario. They've peaked at the right time and their pattern so far isn't all that different from their victorious 2019 campaign. They had two must-win games to make the semifinal and managed to do that with aplomb. Eoin Morgan may not be there anymore but the brand of cricket that he left behind is off and running with Jos Buttler taking over the mantle.
India's campaign has been rather smooth so far. Their only loss to South Africa was also a game where they competed till the very end and it's that fighting spirit that Rohit Sharma's men will need to bring to the table in this knockout fixture. Obviously, Suryakumar Yadav's ever-improving ball-striking has been the cornerstone of the side's performances with a certain Virat Kohli also reminding us that he is still around. However, the others in the batting haven't really set the tournament alight and a lot will be expected from the openers to ease some pressure from the in-form duo. If SKY and Virat have stepped up with the bat, it's been young Arshdeep Singh who has been a revelation with the ball while Bhuvneshwar Kumar has played the ideal foil for his younger partner. There are areas to improve, particularly in the field and in the top-order batting but India on their day are as deadly as they come. It will be more of a mental battle for them though, because knockout failures can get into your head after a while. Ask South Africa. Interesting to see how skipper Rohit Sharma leads his men in his first-ever World Cup knockout game as captain.
