New Zealand take a big step towards qualifying to the semi-finals. They're on 7 points now and that means Australia and England can at best equal them on points. But their NRR is superb and it will take a lot for either of the two teams to go past them. You could say that they've packed their luggage to the knockouts and they might have made enough to confirm a first-place finish in Group 1. Chasing 186, Ireland needed a big start and their openers got them. At 68 for 0 after 8 overs, they looked set to cause an upset, but then spin did the trick for KW's men. Having realised that pace off the ball was the key, both Santner and Sodhi stuck to their task. As the rate went up, so did the panic in the Irish dug-out - wickets fell, the rate kept going up and they left themselves with too much to do in the end.

Kane Williamson is the Player of the Match: The guys were brilliant in negating the new ball and give us a good start. It was a very competitive total. The guys with the ball adjusted nicely, the spinners came in, and they did their job. [His innings] Similar to building some partnerships and it was nice to get a bit of momentum. It was nice. Good team effort. Ireland have been playing beautifully and it is nice to get a win.

New Zealand have beaten Ireland by 35 runs. Have they become the first semifinalist? Well, technically not. If Afghanistan bat first, the Kiwis will be through.

Andy Balbirnie: We played a top-class team, and were a bit off in the middle and when you play a top-class team you have to capitalise, which we did not after the start we got. We bowled pretty well, but our fielding has been a bit off in the tournamen. The guys have played really well. We have been happy with the effort. We caused a couple of upsets, we are playing better cricket than we were in the last 12 months, every one is starting to show their class.

Ireland's World Cup campaign is over, but they'll leave Australia with plenty of positives and plenty of good achievements. They got through to the Super-12 after a long wait, beat neighbours England at the 'G' and put up fighting performances against the likes of Australia and New Zealand. In Tucker, Campher and Joshua Little, they've found a new spine and will now start preparations for the 50-over World Cup next year. As for New Zealand, they'll have to wait for their qualification to be officially confirmed and will then either stay here / travel to Sydney for their knockout game.
