I don't think he pretended till now. I think it's the future track where he will change. It looks like Ambar us definitely manipulating him. He probably either finds the diary or the Khushwant Rajwant photo. He either might push away Ginni for whatever Ambar tells or he pretends to hate her so she goes away from him. The Writers might make us audience think he was pretending all along, nut later they might reveal it as his plan.
