See, mental illness is there in KD. It is a long plot. RK suffers illness much prior to baadshah's death. So yeah I am not talking about anything outlandish. Virat standing by her as a DUTY is inline with his character. Sai suspecting his love for her after this is inline with her character. Virat is a misunderstood character is inline with the story. His actions keep him in this zone where you cannot say where his love lies. That is inline with KD's story.
Only difference here is that how separation was introduced. And that Virat 'married' Pakhi in family's eyes. There in KD, they think they have affair and he has feelings for Pakhi. And post seperation family thinks they will get married. So yeah there are mismatches but there are undercurrents too. The character arcs are the same.
In any case, Virat has to win Sai back. He married, fake or real, the person who is the reason for their miseries. Who sai thinks is his first love. so when he proves that Sai is the only person he loved, she will melt and apologize. If they follow ujjanpur track, Virat will apologize and regret for his behavior too.
Like Aaaba said, separation is caused by both. It is never about Pakhi if you look at it. Pakhi is no one. They made her relevant in their relationship. They could have handled her better if they had more trust and communication.
so yeah, who has upper hand is irrelevant in my opinion. both will realize their mistakes and apologize for it. But Virat will go behind Sai because he married Pakhi and he has to explain it in a better way!
