When you initially watch Arjun, your first impression of Chhotu is: Accha yeh toh comic character hai shayad, khaane se obsessed rehta hai aur masti mazak karta hai. Aur itne bade aadmi ka naam Chotu kisne rakh dia? You might indadvertedly dismiss him as being representative of one class in favour of the others in the ETF who seem more in-the-face as being, and think that this is someone who could classically fit the tough, macho boy trope, and boy-oh-boy you will be SO wrong to do so😆

The more you watch, you begin to realise how multidimensional this character is, it is not a jitna dikhta hai utna bikhta hai situation. His name might be Chhotu, but he is a beautiful soul in and out has the biggest heart of them all, moreso when he can feel the pain of others (esp. Rhea/Arjun/Shri/Rathore) without even saying and knows when to tune in and out. You might laugh along with the other ETF members at his fear of horror movies and sometimes superstitious nature or his hopeless crush on the 11.30 am wali ladki who he sees every Sunday, but the hope he continues to harbour for his one-sided love story is also commendable, coz most people would have up when they see the other side might not be as responsive. There is never a dull moment when Chhotu is around, he makes sure to create a supportive atmosphere wherever he goes, and quickly becomes one of your favourites, even without consciously having to do any heroics, with his positivity always shining through his words and actions

These and more are all the things that make Chhotu such a memorable role:

(i) His tuning with Arjun Sir and Rathore Sir as a worthy subordinate team member who unknowingly gives resourceful ideas, uncovers clues which unwittingly point towards the culprit. He has a lot of respect for both of them, to the extent where sometimes he even allows them to make decisions for him and takes in their criticism better than the others, and yet he loyally follows through even if his heart might say otherwise. This is evident in the episodes where he has to face his biggest fears 👍🏼

(ii) His comic timing with Shri and Rhea (and other members), when they make the Band of Musketeers, who try to navigate cases with their own circle of understanding and play pranks in the midst of the missions, annoying their seniors. He seemed to also be the biggest Arjun/Rhea shipper there is on the planet😈and was also most visibly disturbed and heartbroken after her death when the ETF members were trying to pick up the pieces and make a fresh start 🥺 He is also very supportive of Shree finding love and keeps teasing him about doing so, even with Lisa 😛 Chhotu, as far as I have watched, really becomes a brother to every single person on the team, whom they can lean on for emotional and physical support without him expecting anything in return. This is the type of person who will both fight nail and tooth to save your izzat, and also bring you chocolates when you are unwell, without harbouring any biases or ideals of toxic masculinity And it wont be wrong to say, ek tarah se ETF ka dil hai Chhotu, because he just has so much of love and positivity for every single person who is part of their team, whether in the past or present

(iii) The pehelwann side: He uses his physical ability only to PROTECT, never to DESTROY, when the choti and sunglasses comes off, you know saamne wale ki shaamat aa gayi hai. He seemingly tries to make an effort to push aside though sometimes coz it seems he has childhood insecurities because of it. It was not explored as a sub-plot, though we always hoped to know why Chhotu used to go into a melancholy mode when it came to people appreciating his machoism 😲

In all, Ketan Sir had played him effortlessly, and indeed when we think of the show Har Yug Mein Aayega Ek Arjun, Chhotu ranks as one of our absolute beloved characters 🤗
