Everyone is upset with Ram and so am I. But lets just take a step back and look at the scenario from his lens. Ram never took love for granted. Be it from his father or his step mother. Unlike most kids who think that parents are supposed to love you coz its their duty. He always felt indebted to them. Even to his own biological father. VK loved him the most and did everything he could to make him happy. Be it getting his favorite car or set the foundation for a business empire which would be run by him one day. When VK died, both Shubhu and Shivi were small and Nandu was young. So he felt he should step into his father's shoes and fulfill his responsibilities for the family. He never bothered about his own needs. It was all about his family that was Nandu, Shivi and Shubhu. Even when he took medicines it wasn't for himself. It was so that he could stay alive and work like a donkey to take care of their needs. While Shubhu and Shivi ignored him outright, Nandu was very careful with her manipulations. She was well aware of Ram's nature and she knew Ram felt grateful to her for loving him. Any decent woman would have been content with the love she received from a child not born to her but Nandu is far from that, isn't she? She beautifully manipulated him to believe a lie. She used herself to blackmail Ram emotionally for years and it worked, still continues to. Shubhu and Shivi were small when VK died and Ram was a young adult. So he became their father figure. A child may stop loving their parent but a parent never stops loving their child, no matter how they are. Shubhu never had brotherly feelings for Ram and Ram is just an ATM card. While Shivi loved him, she never acknowledged his value till Priya made her realise it.
After Ram married Priya, he began to feel the need to live life for himself so that he can be with her. Even at the time of their marriage and post that, when did they ever get to spend one peaceful moment? Because of MS and because of MM's spineless attitude to stand up to her ex husband, one or the other mishaps kept happening. First Raj tried to get Ram sick, then Akki and Shivi eloped thanks to Priya, then MS tried to kill Ram and ended up hurting Priya. Then comes a huge shocker for Ram - his father's death was no accident but a murder. The search for the killer culminates at the Sood family. If only MM had handled the situation in a better manner. Yes Varun loved Ishaan but how could anyone be blind to the fact that Ishaan was brainwashed against his own mother by Varun? She could have sat down with Ram and explained the truth. Ram would have understood her. But MM chose to break Ram's faith. Ram had loved her like a mother and this came as a blow to him. Akki knew why he brought Shivi home but y could he not tell her the reason for it? Shivi got restless to get out of that home coz of her tiff with a teenage boy and took a rash decision. She staged a drama but how will Ram know that? He already had one reason to not trust Soods and Shivi blaming them only made his mistrust grow deeper. Before he could sit down and talk to Priya, Shivi met with that accident. The sister he had loved like a child died in front of his eyes and again coz of a Sood. He never got time to think through things coz all these things happened in quick succession. He got Priya arrested but he was in two minds. When he came to her to get her out of prison, she lies to him saying she never loved him and slept with another man. The child she is carrying is not his. No sane person can take all of this. Yet he tried to dismiss her lie and then comes Nandu. Who will he trust now? A mother who has loved him all his life (this is from Ram's POV only and not the audience. We know the reality of Nandu) or a wife who he loves dearly but whose family is responsible for the death of his father and now sister? Its easier for him to chose his mother at this point coz he cannot think beyond the tragedies that happened in his life so far. Yes Priya risked her life for him and yes she admitted to him she loves him and can do anything. And this was probably why he wanted to believe she was lying. But then his mother takes him away. He was always emotional and irrational. Was it so out of character for him to believe his mother's words?
When the truth is out, he will suffer the biggest heartbreak ever. Bigger than the one he suffered when Shivi died coz he will never forgive himself for forsaking his wife and his own child for a woman who had pretended to love all this while. But for him to break free of the fake familial bonds, the truth needs to come out. The entire truth. Only then will he able to embrace the true family he has and hold onto them.
P. S - Sorry for the long post but I was trying to look at things from Ram's angle too. Though I am pretty sure I will bash him soon for something or the other 😆
