Epi - 189 (highlights)

Epi starting me hi shappu ka jhagda ho gaya

Shashank room me ghuste hi Appu se takra jata hai is liye immediately sorry bhi bolta hai but fir bhi Appu use " double battery " kehti hai fir khadus Shisht ko dumb bolta hai 🤣dono bahut sari arguments karte hai aur puri family ye enjoy kar rahi hai 😆

Rat me shashank aaya tha Appu se studies ke bare me puchhne ( ye sirf ek bahana tha) aur babi aattya Appu ka convo sunkar chala gaya maybe babi aattya ke liye worried ho gaya

Bhaskar ne Deepali se clearly bola ki mai sirf Vidya ka hu Good but ab kya fayda 😭

Night me Appu kukki gang ke sath kuch planning kar rahi thi, shashank upar ki balcony se sab dekh raha hai chupke se S : Ye ladki kab mature hogi, kukki gang ke sath milkar jarur kuch kand karegi. Par mai kyu iske bare me soch raha hu? Muze is time babi aattya ke liye sochna chahiye, shisht ke bare me nahi. But shisht bhi definitely babi aattya ke liye hi kuch plan kar rahi hogi. Jo bhi ho iske atrangi plans se sab ko khushi milti hai ye important hai 😊 ek minute, ye kya kar raha hu mai, muze shisht ke bare me nahi sochna hai

I don't think they are at the level yet where they would have a date and private dance...maybe in their dream sequence but not irl yet.

LOVE: Listen, Observe, Value, Embrace

Note: I don't know exactly how this happens in the original but this is just my wild imagination. I honestly think that Appu is already in love with her Khadus and may even know her feelings somewhat but is stopping herself especially with her insecurities. And Shashank might be a little out of character here but with the lover boy we’ve seen of him recently, it might not be too out of the realm of possibility. Hindi is not my main language, what I know is from watching movies but I’m going to try to write most of the dialogue in Hindi just because I think it gives a better feel for these characters than English so sorry in advance for grammatical errors.

Backstory: This is after Appu passes her exams but Shashank doesn’t want to let her go but hasn’t exactly outright confessed yet. Appu still leaves from K house. (BTW, one year is not up yet, since exams and results were long before their wedding so there’s probably about a month left before their anniversary)

Part 1: Listen

The Kanetkar’s were sitting around in the veranda late night thinking about the past 2 days. After much scolding and pleading and force over the past couple months, their beloved Appu began to study and passed her exams in first class, barely, and left the Kanetkar house. They tried to stop her but when she didn’t listen, they let her go and decided to give her a few days to think before trying to talk to her again.

Mai: Mujhe sachme laga ki Appu pass hone ke baad bhi, humse door nahin jayegi.

Dada Kaka (DK): Mujhe viswas tha ki, ek saal me Shashank aur Appu ke beech sab theek ho jayega. Un dono ke beech pyaar ayega. Shayad mein galat thi.

Kukki: Nahin Dada. Aap ka vishwas bikul sahi tha. Humare Kukki Gang se puchiye. Is ek saal mein hum log hamare saare 10 kaan aur 10 aankh Shashank aur Appu ke aas paas hi rakha. Hum log ne dekha jis tarah se voh dono ek durse se alag nahin reh sakte.

Nikhil: Kukki is right. Babi atya ki shaadi ke vaqt, Appu ghar per nahin ti, toh Shashank bechan hogaya.

Sumi: Aur Appu, Dada institute se thodi dher aye, toh pareshan hojati hai.

Prachi: Dono Tom and Jerry ki thara hai

Mansi: Haa…in dono ka tho vo haal hai: can’t live with you, can’t live without you. Thabi toh Bhauji ne voh contract papers phek diye. Bhauji shayad bolenge nahin par voh Appu se pyaar karta hai, I’m sure.

Amey: Vese Shashank hai kaha?

Sua Aai: Voh institute ke bad bhaar gaya hai, kaha kuch zaroori kaam hai.

Shashank just enters the house, but looks heartbroken. Kukki gang calls after him but he doesn’t listen and is about to walk up to his room, lost in his thoughts.

Kukki: shakes him; Shashank, what happened?

Sua Aai: Bada, tu thik hai?

Shashu: Ha aai, bas kuch soch rahi thi.

DK: Shashank, hum sab keliye tumari khushi sabse zyada important hai. Tumara jo bhi decision hoga, we are with you. Do you really want to separate from Appu?

Shashu: immediately without pause. Bilkul nahi. Dada kaka, I know main iss shadi keliye totally ready nahi thi and baad mein haa bhi isilye kiya tha kyunki Apurva ne ye exam ki condition and contract rakha tha. But now, mein uske bina nahi rehna chatha hoon.

Everybody stands up listening to him and start smiling.

Kukki: matlab tu Appu se pyaar karta hai?

Shashu: ye sawaal tum mujhse puch kyun rahi ho Kukki? Iska jawab tho tume or tumari Kukki gang ko pehle se batata, hai na?

Mai: matlab?

Shashu: with a small smile on his face; matlab ye Mai ki Dada Kaka ka koi bhi decision kabhi galat nahi ho sakthi. Mujhe uss Shisht ki aadat padgayi. Phele mujhe ye shanti or discipline pasand aati thi, par ab uski shor or masti ke bina mera din poora nahin lagta. Ha vo thoda immature hai or childish bhi, par jo bachkani harkate mujhe pehle bilkul pasand nahin thi, vo ab mujhe achi lagti hai, kabhi kabhi. Uski innocence ne mujhe kahi ka nahin choda.

Realizing what he means, everybody has a delighted 440K watt smile on their faces.

Sumi: Dada ab vo ek line bhi bol do jiskeliye humari Kukki gang ek saal se wait kar rahi hai. Please.

Shashu: smiling broadly with shyness and blushing; Majhe majhi Shisth bayakovar khup prema ahe.

Kukki gang screams with delight and starts cheering and dancing while hugging each other. Sua Aai and Vittu Baba hug their son crying in joy, while Mai and DK are hugging each other crying tears of pride.

Kukki gang along with Prachi and Panna, continues to dance and drags Shashank into the center to dance around him, while he is blushing and laughing.

Nikhil: Shashank, you have no idea how much we’ve waited to hear you say that. Matlab humne tum dono ko paas lane keliye bahut try kiya.

Amey: Kuch plans hum par ulta padgayi par phir bhi try toh kiya.

Shashu: chuckling ha ha janta hoon; tum logon ga Aliking rituals, Chaand darshan, honeymoon picnic, etc, etc…

Sumi: are par Dada, humari plans kaam kare ya nahin, kuch zabardast memories tho bane na.

Shashu: blushing but with a fake stern face; Sumi, I’m you big brother, don’t forget.

Sumi giggles and says sorry holding her ears.

Mansi: Sumi thik hi tho bol rahi hai Bhauji. Matlab aap dono ko paas lane keliye humari Kukki gang ki saare members ne pichle ek saal se humari aankh, kaan, pair, sab kuch aapke kamre ke taraf hi rakha. Kitne sara ajib ajib ideas use kiya aap dono par.

Kukki: are All’s well that ends well. Finally, Shashank ne accept kiya ki voh Appu se pyaar karta hai.

Babi Atya (BA): (always the voice of reason): Par Appu ka kya?

Everybody stops listening to her, their smiles slowly diminishing.

BA: Shashank Appu se pyaar karta hai, ye thik hai, actually bahut khushi ki baat hai. Par Appu ka kya? We all saw, voh kaise Shashank ke contract papers phekne ke baad bhi chale gayi. She didn’t want to go, voh dikh raha tha. But kyu? Usse hum sabse door nahin jana tha ya Shashank se? Rishta toh inn dono ka hai. Agar Appu Shashank ke saath nahin rehna chathi tho iss khushi ka kya matlab?

Prachi: Vansa thik bol rahi hai. Appu yehase janna nahin chathi thi voh hum sabko dikh raha tha, par phir bhi voh chale gayi. Shashank Appu se pyaar karta hai par Appu ka kya?

Mai: hum sab ek kaam karte hai, kal sab Appu ke paas jaate hai or usse samjhane ki koshish karte hai.

Sua Aai: haa, yeh sahi hai Mai. Kuch bhi karke hum usse vapas leke ayenge.

Shashank: loudly Nahin Aai.

Kukki: Shashank tu hume rokh kyu raha hai? You want Appu back in your life right?

Shashank: Of course Kukki, par zabardasti nahin. Apurva apni marzi se gayi haina, toh vapas bhi apni marzi se hi aayegi. Koi usse force nahin karega. Shaadi zabardasti ya thoda blackmail karke kiya jasaktha hai but there is a difference between a wedding and a marriage. Iss shaadi ko hum dono apni marzi se, khushi se, nibhana hoga. Iss liye, please, meri request hai aap sabse. Koi Apurva ko force mat karna.

Nikhil: par Shashank, hum Appu ko force karne nahin, usse samjhane ki baat kar rahe hai.

Shashank: Please kuch mat karna. Mujhe thoda waqt dho, main kuch sochta hu.

He leaves to his room ignoring everybody’s calls behind him.

Everyone sits down again dejected, their happiness from moments ago evaporating into a new pain and fear, afraid for their boy to be rejected in love.

DK after looking at his family and thinking over Shashank’s words tells everyone to go sleep and that they will think about what to do tomorrow.

Shashank’s room

His thoughts: I can’t believe what I heard today. How did I not see this before? How did I not understand her problem? Why couldn’t I see the real reason behind her actions? Why couldn’t I understand her true pain and fear behind her mask of smiles and laughter? If I didn’t decide to go to Dr. Kaushik’s house today, then I might have never known.

Shashank thinks back to how he was at work this morning but couldn’t concentrate thinking about Apurva and how to fix this relationship.

Flashback

Shashank in his office thinking about Apurva. Netra comes into the office after knocking couple times with no response. She sees Shashank lost in thoughts and decides to try to get close to him.

Netra: Shashank sir (touches his shoulder)

Shashank is startled and immediately removes her hand and asks her why she is there.

Netra (talking fast without break): Sir, I know, aap us bigdail ladki ke bhare me soch rahe hai. But you don’t need to anymore, I know she left. Uski exams hogayi hai. I never thought she would actually pass voh bhi first class but achha hua na. Ab aapko uske tantrums and childish behavior jhelne nahin padenge. Aur ab shayad hum—

Shashank immediately stops her: Enough Netra. Meri life mein kya horaha hai, isse tume koi farak nahin padnichaye. My personal life is none of your business so please stay out of it.

Netra; But sir mein toh-

Shashank: Agar tume kuch kaam hai Netra toh apni team members ke saath discuss karo. I’m leaving.

Shashank immediately leaves the office ignoring Netra completely. He decides to go to Vartak house to try to meet Appu and see if she would talk to him. When he reaches, one of the maids open the door and tell him that Dr. Kaushik is at the hospital, Dr. Anjali went out to see some friends but Appu is in the garden with Sarika Atya. He goes towards the garden to talk to them but stops by one of the doors when he hears Appu saying his name.

Scene: Garden

Appu: Khadus mujhe miss nahin karega.

SA: Appu, don’t say that. Kya tu sachme Kanetkars se door jana chati hai?

Appu: Aur koi option bhi tho nahin hai na Atti. Meine aur Khadus ne shaadi se pehle hi decide kiya tha na ki mera exams mein first class ane ke baad hum separate honge.

SA: Haa par iss one year bahut change hogaya na? Tum uss puri family se bahut pyaar karti hu na aur shayad Shashank se bhi, hai na?

Appu lost in thoughts about her Khadus and has a bittersweet smile on her face. Seeing Appu not responding to her, SA shakes Appu and again asks if nothing changed.

Appu: Bahut kuch badal gaya hai Atti. Mujhe voh puri family bahut bahut bahut pasand hai. In fact, mere liye toh Kanetkar family is the best family in the world. Dada Kaka paise or discipline ki mamle mein strict but thoda modern bhi. Voh head of the family hai par koi dictator nahin hai. He lets everyone take their own decisions by just guiding them in the right way. Mai loves everyone equally, voh puri family ko jodke rakthi hai. Vittu Baba aur Sua Aai toh bahut sweet hai. Matlab mein toh risthe mein unki bahu hu na, but still voh mere liye Khadus ko bhi dhantenge. Panna kaku tho bahut hi innocent hai aur bas sabki khuski chathi hai. Babi Atya bhi DK ki tarah discipline aur padayi pe focused hai par hamare saath kabhi kabhi masti bhi karti hai. Prachu toh ghar me sabse chote hai par bahut mature hai, kabhi koi ziddh ya tantrums nahin karti. Aur meri Kukki gang..voh toh sabse best hai. Vaise toh Kukki hum sabki Kaka hai par kabhi aisa behave nahin karte. Hum sabke saath milke masti karta hai. Sumi or Mansi Vahini toh meri sisters hai. Sumi ke liye toh me uski bhabhi hu na par kabhi voh mujhe outsider ki tarah treat nahin karti. Ha voh apni Dada ki ladli hai par hamesha meri side leti hai. Aur Mansi Vahini toh bahut pure hai. Hum dono iss family ki bahu hai par unhone kabhi complaint nahin ki hai mere bare mein. Mein unki tarah khana nahin banati ya ghar ka kaam nahin karti, etc, etc. She could complaint a lot if she wants ki hum dono ko alag treat karte hai but she doesn’t care. Unkeliye toh mai unki chotti behen hu. Aur Amey Dada aur Nikhil Dada toh mujhe sachme apne little sister mante hai. You know what Atti, jab bhi college mein meri classmates ki brothers ko une pick karne keliye aate hue dekthi hu na, toh meri bahut wish thi ki kaash meri life mein bhi koi esa hota jho mujhe aisa protect karta, meri care karta. Aur meri ye wish Ameya Dada aur Nikhil Dada ne pura kiya. Voh dono mujhe sachme pamper karte hai, care karte hai or protect bhi.

(Appu smiles thinking about her lovely family)

Shashank listens to all of this with a broad smile on his face thinking about however much his family loves Appu, Appu loves them all even more. His thoughts are disturbed by SA’s question.

SA: Aur Shashank?

Appu: Khadus? (smiling) Khadus bhi meri care karta hai, genuinely. I know that. Iss liye toh voh hamesha mere piche pada rehte hai about my studies.

SA: Toh phir tum unn sabse door kyu ja rahi hu Appu? You won’t ever find such a loving family again. They are very understanding and caring. Aur Shashank toh bahut hi intelligent and settled ladka hai. Voh apni family keliye kuch bhi karsakta hai.

Appu: Iss liye toh main vaha aur nahin ruk sakti Atti.

Shashank and SA are confused by her statement. Seeing SA confusion, Appu tries to explain.

Appu: Dekho Atti, I know voh family bahut hi sweet, caring, loving aur understanding hai. Iss liye mujhe unhe aur pareshan nahin karna hai Atti. Aap ne kaha na ki iss one year mein bahut kuch badal gaya. Ha meri feelings change hogay but I don’t fit into their family. Mein un sabse bahut alag hu. Voh log humari culture ko bahut mante hai aur mujhe inn sari cheezon ke bare mein kuch nahin pata aur ye baat shaadi ke time prove bhi hogaya. Ghar mein sari ladies subha utkar cooking karte hain, ghar ka kaam karte hai. Mein unn sabke saath rehkar subha utna seekh gayi but I still don’t how to cook well aur mujhe ghar ka baaki kaam tho sahi se ati bhi nahin na. Sab log bahut hi matured hai aur respectful bhi, especially towards elders. I don’t follow all that, I just say whatever I think. I know ye saab voh log mind nahin karte but kab tak? At some point, they will tired of me, just like Anjali Vartak.

SA: Appu!

Appu: Sahi bhol rahi hu Atti. (crying) When my own mom couldn’t handle me, then how will they? Meri apni mom ko kuch saal bad mein important nahin lagi, toh kisi aur ko kese lagungi?

SA hugs Appu and consoles her.

Appu: Aur ha Khadhus ki baat hai toh ha, voh bahut hi intelligent hai or mature bhi. Voh sachme apni family keliye kuch bhi karsakta hai, meri jese ladki ko bhi apni wife ki jagah desaktha hai. But uskeliye bahut his embarassing hoga na. I mean voh gold medalist, scientist of the year, aur main ek baar fail hone ke baad, abhi abhi BA pass ladki. Uski profession mein, usse bahut hi bade log se milna hota hain, bhaut sare conferences mein jana padta hai. Jab voh apni collegues se baat karta ho, aur voh log usse puche ki tumari wife kya karti hai toh voh kya bolega, ki voh BA pass hai. Voh apni family se bahut pyaar karta hai issliye voh mere saath rehlega par uskeliye kitni embarassing hoga na. Aur ye saab sirf mein nahin, aur bhi log mante hai. Aapne khud suna na, kitni baar Netra Tai ne khud kaha ki main Khadus ki layak hi nahin hoon. And it’s true. He deserves someone better. Uska bhi mann hoga na, ki uski wife uskeliye khana banayi, tiffin pack kare, uski family ki dhyan rakhe. Mein voh sab nahin karsakti. Issliye mere usse door jana hi sahi hai Atti. Iss ek saal mein, maine un sabke saath bahut saari memories banayi hai, that’s enough for me. Isse phele ki voh log bhi mujhe meri mom ki tarah chodke chale jaye, mein hi unn sabse hai door agayi hun. So that I can at least have the good memories with them. And Khadus…sorry Shashank can get the life partner he deserves. Atti, mein thodi dher main aati hun.

Appu leaves crying from the garden to go out of the house, but doesn’t see Shashank standing at the opposite door. Shashank stood rooted in his spot, unable to process what he heard. Sarika Atya was about to enter the house when she sees Shashank.

SA: Shashank, tum yeha.

Shashank: Atya, voh mein…

SA: Tum thik ho?

Shashank (still shook): Mein baad mein aati hun. Please don’t say anything to Apurva about me. I will talk to her later.

End of Flashback.
