This is so sad, yet inspiring and am happy to see that this mom/daughter duo are free now.

I feel most Indian Americans and many Indians especially in this forum live in an alternate world sort of in our own bubble. I sympathize with this woman's story, but I cannot relate to her story to me it's in a different world.

Currently my mom is visiting from India for a couple of months and we've had several opinionated heated discussions already. My mom says, this woman in the insta post or Anupama's story, 90% of Indian society is like this, like Baa, Vanraj and Toshu or shades of them and women are like Anupamaa, conditioned in some form or the other vs I believe the new generation has changed, that all this is only in small towns or rural India like 40%-50% and we've been arguing about this. She says I live in insta/twitter/IF world where the 90% population are ideal MaAn shippers, all for women's progress etc

Living in the US, most of my family/friends circle are made-up of mixed marriages, mixed cultures/religions, many divorcee, 2nd marriages, gay/lesbian couples etc hardly any baas or vanus in my knowing and most men/spouses are some form of Anuj especially equality in working/raising family/household chores etc so my views are totally different, for me Dadi can get married and Dadi can have a child at 45 too and so I am a huge MaAn shipper, am sucker for happy endings for love stories.

I truly hope my mom's numbers are wrong, if not I will still hope that Anupama inspires a whole generation and society to change for the better.
