The only time we studied about Mughals were in 7th grade. Where it history is covered from the Delhi sultanate onwards. 6th grade and below we had prior period history. From class 8th onwards it was modern history, pre independence etc.

Some social reformers at the time felt that India wasn’t ready to be independent.. and it was a letter from Raja Ram Mohan Roy to the British prime minister that led to the adoption of anglicised education being established as opposed to the oriental system as they wanted exposure to western education.

India was not without its problems.

There is no glorifying anyone in the school texts. I’m not sure why you would say that.

I am telling you the way I learned it. No kidding. When we were taught the names of the Mughal emperors (Babur to Aurangzeb), it was always focussed extensively on them. We had covered Mauryas, Guptas and Gautam Buddha in that term too, but they hardly got any weightage in the papers or while teaching

I didn't know about Shivaji Maharaja, Chola Empire, or even Dara Shikoh (Shah Jahan's eldest son) until I started to read online.

I didn't have NCERT ki book so I am not aware of that. And given what my education board was, we didn't have History post 8th...but we had to cover everything before that.

The Indian Education System needs refining for sure. I was never a fan of ratta maaroing and "Write Short Notes".

Which board did you study?

We had one chapter on Mughals, and for kings like Akbar and Asoka there were separate chapters.

Everything is eventually becoming CBSE now anyways.

My mom was in Maharashtra board and all she did was study about the Maratha empire 😂

NCERT/ CBS books are considered the best in India. Even people preparing for UPSC (civil services), NCERT books from class 5 to 12 make up major part of their syllabus.

If Dara Sukoh had ascended the throne things would have been very different. He even translated Upanishads to Persian 😭

IGCSE and A Levels from University of Cambridge.

But the board never gave us our history syllabus...that was upto the schools and the country we were in.

So 6th had all ancient civilizations. In fact I had spoken to my teachers and told them to add Ancient Iran so that we could celebrate Parsi New Year in school, like every other festival.

See that's what I mean, that Dara Shikoh was such a hero, but there was no mention of him in our books...that Shah Jahan's eldest son attempted to bring together two faiths and learn the texts from his motherland. ❤️
