It depends on your location. As in from where you/your parents come from. Both my parents come from rural/townish north indian BG and we have strict codes about black and white. They are nope. However if I were to get married, my parents would be fine, because it'd be delhi.

I think you can wear black... just not on weddings/ any pious occasion, pooja etc. But isn't black considered taboo in other cultures too? In weddings it's certainly a stigma. Once we were shopping for lehangas, and the woman beside us did not buy a lehanga she really liked just because it was black.
