So Ashley,I ended up reading your oneshot on Sultan in which he finally got the life he deserved and, girl,I don't know what to say anymore even though I have a LOT to say 😭 Sounds pretty contradictory, right? Well that's precisely how it is 😆
I am going to begin with how you depicted Sultan's redemption and what led him to let go of Nageen at last. Sultan Durrani was one of those people who tread carefully between darkness and light wilfully maintaining a balance between both sides of his, levitating towards both according to circumstances, without letting either of them overpower the other. It would not have been in synchronisation with his character to let go of all his signature traits, that include his ambitions and cunningness, overnight and venture on the path of sainthood. Neither would it have made sense for him to turn into a completely depraved monster devoid of all sense and reason. Now both scenarios, howsoever farfetched, are possible depending on the character we are dealing with. But Sultan is not one of those. This is why for Sultan to have realised the error of his ways just when he was on the very edge of falling into the dark pit is a beautiful touch because while Sultan Durrani is someone who will embrace his flaws and even hon them as useful skills, under no circumstances will he allow them to take control of him. This is what makes him, him. While he removed himself from Nageen's life,he took all necessary measures to ensure that her life ahead is secure and as hassle free as it could be,even forming a safety net for her to fall back on lest things with Haroon went south. The methods he used may not be exactly lawful but I have got no complaints with it for given the resources and power he has at his disposal,he is very well capable of this😉😆 It is yet another reminder that someone like Sultan can both be a formidable foe as well as a useful friend who leaves no stone unturned when it comes to the well being of the people he considers his own. As a reader,I will take the liberty of forming a headcanon that,in this alternate universe,if Nageen ever decides to walk out of her marriage with Haroon and build her own life as an independent woman with her kids, then she will have Sultan and Kahina providing her with all the support she needs to get on her own feet.
Speaking of Kahina, this girl is stuff my dreams are made of. Partly because she is a lawyer and mainly because she provides Sultan with the much needed love and stability that he deserved. One of the reasons why she is compatible with him is because she is both acquainted and accustomed to the cut throat enviroment that exists in the real world outside where survival of the fittest is the norm. Due to this reason, someone like her would not judge him,a corporate shark, for resorting to underhanded tricks when needed while understanding his intent. Like him,she is absolutely ruthless on a professional level and knows how to get the work done. I have to give her an A for her c̶o̶e̶r̶c̶i̶v̶e̶, negotiation skills that she applied while dealing with Narmeen's mom.😉 And,to imagine someone fighting for Sultan and his happiness, was touching to see❤️ She harboured no grudges or jealousy for Nageen despite what Sultan was doing for her because she was confident and secure enough to understand that while Sultan's helpful gestures for Nageen were acts of remorse,it was her whom he belonged to at the end of the day. She was a worthy recipient of his deewangi afterall.
Reading about Sultan letting go of his demons and living his best life with a loving partner who cherished him and kids by his side brought a smile to my face ❤️ Thank you,Ashley dearest, for this beautiful peace of work👏
This particular quote of yours stuck with me - "Deewangi was not about burning in flames of desire together, it was about rising like phoenixes from any damn flame together. It was the ability to stick together no matter what."
Your first para itself and I am bracing myself for your wonderful words 😃😆❤️
So glad that you picked up on these nuances. Sultan would have stopped himself when he knew he was wrong, but he was a certain way his whole life. Power, money, influence, dominance were a part of him. Plus he was thirsty to expand his empire and reign it, just like the "Sultan" he is, pun intended.
There was no way that would change and it should not. Changing everything about him would be unrealistic, and not fair to him.
Hence his love interest would have to be someone who understood all his sides and still loved him. This does not mean she would allow him to take actions that were morally and ethically wrong. Sultan only resorted to shortcuts when it was for a good cause. Remember, he never changed his rules and morals for anyone!
Thus Nageen would have never been able to be what Sultan genuinely needed. As a wife of a business tycoon, there are certain duties that have to be fulfilled. I never saw Nageen doing that, but Kahina would not only take up those duties, but voluntarily help Sultan in a bunch of places, being the pillar of support and strength he needed.
To have Kahina fight for Sultan was my own personal dream which never came true in the show. Sultan always put others before him, fulfilled everyone's wishes and demands without asking for anything in return. What he got was deception at every stage of his life. So that negotiation scene was just ❤️...imma go read it again now 😆
Another major difference to show was how different Sultan and Haroon were. If you remember in the show, Nageen was scared to talk about her past to Haroon because she knew somewhere in the back of her mind how he would react...and he did exactly that. On the other hand, when Kahina talks about her ex-fiancee, Ali, to Sultan, he doesn't object or call her names. He knows it's life and people do have relationships at some point. That is why he was so much more accepting of Ali's parents and graciously gives them a respectable position in his life, fulfilling his own void of not having a family. Because not every family-like bond you have will be blood-related.
I always wanted Sultan's deewangi to be mutual. Someone should be as crazy about him and he was about that person. Hence Kahina did go to lengths for him. He deserved her, and she deserved him.
"Deewangi was not about burning in flames of desire together, it was about rising like phoenixes from any damn flame together. It was the ability to stick together no matter what."
^^^ I wish the writers knew of this, maybe we would have had a different ending to the show ❤️
No worries, I am glad that one of my versions is at least fan-canons for y'all. We still have one more ongoing Deewangi Fanfiction...this will be fun 😉
@bold,Understanding the distinction between inducing gradual changes in one's personality in due course of the story and stripping them of their basic personality traits is needed in order to set character development apart from turning a character OOC. There are many fanfic authors who opt to completely alter a character and mould them according to their fanons and I wholeheartedly respect it for they have the liberty to do so. However when the creators of a tv show or film resort to this tactic in canon out of the blue for any reason whatsoever,it is gravely disappointing and unfair to both the character and the audience who invested themselves in it. This is what Deewangi's makers did which you rectified in your story.Originally posted by: Ashley.Tisdale

@red,Precisely. Nageen was too sheltered and simple minded to wrap her head around the fact that the world is not entire black or white. This has got more to with outlook than status. In order to be by Sultan's side as an equal partner, one needs to have an understanding of his ambitions and aspirations as well as ensure that they get their point across to him. This is one of the reasons why Narmeen, who belonged to the same background as he did, could not become more than a trophy wife. Ironically she did not consider him to be anything more than a trophy either which she had obtained through deceit. His ideal partner is someone who not only loves him but also respects him and is unafraid to look him in the eye. It has to be someone who embraces both Sultan Durrani, the business magnate and Sultan Durrani, the man. That makes the negotiation scene even more impactful because Sultan had realised that he had finally found a woman who can walk on his path alongside him. Kahina is the perfect blend of emotion and rationality.
@blue, The stark contrast between Sultan and Haroon couldn't have been clearer. Having a past isn't an offence. It should never be. One of the fundamental criteria in a relationship is that both parties should not hesitate before opening up to each other and,in case, they do choose to keep something from their partner then the partner must be reasonable and patient enough to understand WHY they did so. Haroon failed miserably in this aspect since he couldn't even tolerate a simple fact that his wife had a job prior to their marriage or attempt to figure out why she did not tell him about it. So much for claiming to be an "educated" man.
Sultan,on the other hand, embraced Kahina with the baggage of her past as she did with him and the burden that both were carrying until the ended up reducing. If this isn't a poignant relationship then I don't know what is ❤️

Absolutely. And it was not once, but the writers did it multiple times. Sultan from Episode 1 to Episode 24 was a different man, Episode 24 to few episodes before the finale was some sort of stalker-psychopath, and for the last couple of episodes became a cold-blooded murderer. Instead of being the man who would learn from his mistakes, he got driven to the point from where he could not get redeemed.
Nageen's biggest problem was her preconceived notions and prejudices, along with her ability to not see the world beyond black and white. The world of business, politics and entertainment is grey and will always be so. Someone having to resort to something slightly off on the moral compass does not make them a completely bad person.
Narmeen had her own fixations and she never saw beyond that. She had lived a sheltered life too, but she was more spoilt and used her resources to exploit others. Kahina was strong and independent, yet she knew where her female charms would also work. She too could turn her switch off and on at will, something that Sultan was very good at. Had Sultan ever mentioned to her that he had to, lets say, bribe someone to get some paperwork passed she would not have judged him. But if it were Narmeen well, she wouldn't give a rat's ass, or Nageen, she would immediately start lecturing Sultan on how to live life ideally.
Thus Sultan would never be able to be himself openly and unapologetically around these two women.
You know there's a saying, that true education cannot be learned, it has to be instilled in you. No matter what qualification Haroon had, his behaviour and approach in multiple situations proved that he was an uneducated man. He never bothered to ask Nageen about anything. First he shamed her, and in contrast, went to beat up Sultan in anger. If anything, then Nageen should have left him in The Finale. But then again, both of them deserved each other.
All Sultan needed was a clean slate and he was the kind of person who would chose to be honest and get dumped than build a relationship on lies or hidden facts. But since he was such an open person, his partner would have to be the same. Because he expected transparency and openness in his life, which no one gave him. In a world full of lied and deceit and with such opportunist family members, all Sultan wanted was a safe space, a haven. That is what Kahina created unknowingly.
Damn, I talk like she was a real character in the show! Never realised how deeply I had thought about her characterisation before! Wow...I am surprised 😆

Use google translate guys and just listen to the urdu audio. Its not exact, the translation. But hou will get an idea. Bas.
But over all yehi baat hai ki the story is about selfish society. And the presentation of it is is in the form of a lesson.
I think this show is being made for both entertainment and giving out a good message. Unlike Ishq Hai which was strictly entertainment.
Honestly, i have confidence in this story now, i dont think its just a basic bad boy good girl love story, i think its more than that. Radain shah will i think gonna address stuff and give proper closure to the story and characters accordingly. I just hope ArY wont interfere with his ideas. Thats it.
