Even if he cant reveal about Shruti , what is the rationale for being distant from Sai. Cant he give her some generic hint about his stress ? He can even tell her about Shruti without disclosing her relationship to the mission or Sada. That way full truth naa sahi, aadha sach toh Sai ko bol paata. It will reduce his so called "guilt" and his "burden" if he tells her atleast part of the story..... He can even tell Sai- I cant tell you everything because of police confidentiality but heres how much i can tell you....

After he met Sada in forest Virat wanted to share everything with Sai but he couldn’t share because of his protocol. He just wants to share everything with her. He may be scared that he blurt out everything to Sai about Sruthi and his vaada . So he felt avoiding her is his best option to keep his secret from Sai.

Clearly he can’t share anything about Sai because Sai will stop him from doing anything wrong.

So this nightmare will lead to Sai rushing to Virat in forest. But he is not the same person who left for mission. He won’t be the the person who stood by her, consoled her, talked to her in their friendship phase.
