Makes a lot of sense. Yes probably, his self-absorption is also a result of misplaced pampering and not just his low emotional quotient. I say misplaced pampering because Chavans way of showing love is weird - overpraise if people act the way they want - selfless, pleasing and high on achievement, don't criticise for truly wrong things but don't give unconditional love either. (I don't believe anyone in CN other than Ashwini, Shivani is capable of love despite what the makers want us to believe). That's why Virat is probably too desperate (and insecure) for unconditional love (which Sai is capable of), but because of the pampering, won't ever scrutinize his actions or recognise his flaws or even ends up blaming the other person for the problems in the relationship. Very very bad combination. And worse, this problematic pattern is engrained so deeply that no matter how much Sai fights for herself and lets him know her POV, I don't think he will ever see her POV. He will never understand that relationship is a two way street.
I also going the way Ashwini deals with him to be weird. She too overestimates her son - and doesn't really chastise him for his wrong. She too is responsible for Virat thinking so highly of himself.
I think Samrat also came to live in CN during his adolescent years. So he escaped the toxic upbringing during his formative years. That couples with the reasons you have stated has certainly made Samrat a much better person than Virat.
What irked me this time was the complete lack of even regret on Virat's side. I am failing to see any honesty in him.
