I think AKT wants Imlie to move on in her life, focus on getting graduation and not deal with these everyday strategy struggles. Maybe thats why he thought of making her lose the case so that she can move ahead in life. He will still love her and not accept Malini but I think he did it for greater good. lets see though what his reason was behind this action.
