Looool. I think it just matters which circles you run in. My family back home runs in kind of similar circles. They do care about wearing nice clothes in front of guests. Even in the US, where we have no staff or anything like that etc, I grew up being told what is acceptable to wear in front of outside people and what is not. So maybe that’s why I get the conflict more.
At the same time, just bc you wear clothes that don’t sparkle doesn’t mean you’re poor or staff either. That wasn’t what we were always told to do. We just had to be in decent clothing. But itv associates heavy saree = rich.
I can understand.
Casuals can be anything, even a salwar suit. What I mean is, we usually look like maid at home( in the context of our sluggishness). All we do is, make ourselves look presentable that's it. We don't change our clothes to a party wear for the sake of guests, we keep it simple.
I'm talking about their attitude towards clothing here. Nobody really gives a damn about clothing when they enter as guest. Maybe they will speak about it, but what matters is the most is the zone of comfort.
It's up to a person to be choosy about clothing, it is stupid of CVs to give such an importance to differentiate between what the other person wears. Pallavi looked presentable in that Saaree and I don't know why anybody would bother to wear heavy Jewellery at home. As you said ITV has created the cliche. But this show has been a cliche break in many instances, so I'm taking the liberty to point this out at them.
