I personally don’t believe in kanyadaan either because like many said, girl is not a property that you can donate.

But I don’t think it’s any different than in Christianity, a father walking his daughter down the aisle and give her away to her husband.

So all the same, every religion has their version of girl leaving fathers house and going to husband place. Not that I agree with any of it but it’s just another proof of patriarchal society and customs which are built all over the world.

I don’t know about other part of india, but us gujjus, girls have fathers name as middle name and husband name after getting married.

When I refused to take my husband name as my middle name, my dad was shocked. Sometimes men don’t even realize how orthodox and insulting some of these customs are. When I gave my daughter my late mother’s name as a middle name, my dad literally gave me a talk on how girl always would want her fathers name as a middle name.

But now 6 years later, he loves that my mom name gets to live on with my daughter. So subtle changes and discussion are important, that’s how we can change the society. There is nothing wrong with this ad, it got people to start talking.

When I was filling my passport form, I was about to add my father's name as the middle name. And my father made me remove his name and redo it. He was like this is my individuality and should have only my name. So now I just have a first and a last name.

I completely agree with you. Such conversations are very important to make sure we collectively move with the times.

lmao, your understanding of biblical studies is extremely poor, and I only have a passing interest in the subject, but the general consensus among biblical scholars (secular and christian alike) is that the gospels were not written by the people whom they're named after. They were written by anonymous authors several decades after the death of Jesus, gospel of John being the latest one.

Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute, there is no reference in the new testament that says she was one, so that goes out the window.

The only thing you've proven is that you don't have a clue what you're talking about. 😆
