And nope to you too.

I have been pretty respectful of expressing my opinion and you have no right to can me a 'supporter of patriarchy'. Just a post back, I agreed on the ill effects of dowry and I do not know which supporter of patriarchy would have a problem with dowry.

I was willing to express the reasons behind my opinion and have a healthy debate if someone felt so by quoting me. I do not agree with personally attacking someone , so if you quote me again, I wont reply to you.

Oh, yeah. This attempt to drag religion into women's rights has always been about supporting patriarchy.

Just like when someone speaks against face coverings in Islamic countries, they bring up religion.

I am a feminist too, but won’t jump my guns without looking at the big picture.

Big picture as in religion > women's rights. Sad to say, this attitude is pretty common all over the world, for all religions. 50% of humanity somehow always has to take the backseat.

Just for every body’s convenience. So that ppl who talk gibberish over patriarchy, won’t sway you.

And patriarchy is part of every religion we know.

patriarchy

/ˈpeɪtrɪɑːki/

noun

  1. a system of society or government in which the father or eldest male is head of the family and descent is reckoned through the male line.
"the thematic relationships of the ballad are worked out according to the conventional archetypes of the patriarchy"

    • a system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it.
      "the dominant ideology of patriarchy"

    • a society or community organized on patriarchal lines.
      plural noun: patriarchies
      "we live in a patriarchy"

Problem is you don’t want to look at big picture of Daan in Hinduism. It has never been associated with girls only.

Another problem is u don’t offer a solution, just a repulsion. I would agree with you 100% if you say stop giving girls in marriage. Let them live their own way. That would end Kanyadaan and all such rituals automatically.

Don’t worry no one will be killed to shoot this ad. We haven’t become Pakistan yet.

And we won’t become, because ppl are only registering their opposition to such acts. Some will boycott also. Some will put long posts on Twitter also.

But it would be all peaceful.

to a certain extent you are right. but if we constantly do this it will curb our freedom. we will be afraid to raise our opinion and soon we will be forced to think and speak within boxes.

Ad didn't talk about daan in general. Only kanyadaan. You're trying to conflate the two and portray it as attack on Hinduism.

Kanya is no one's property to donate. But kanya can happily marry or stay single as she pleases. Which is what I believe everyone who supports the ad is saying. You refuse to acknowledge it because it wouldn't suit your purposes. It is a time-worn technique used by supporters of patriarchy against women who demand their rights. Their perfectly reasonable outlook is portrayed as an attack on religion.

And yeah, daan is pretty much a universal philosophy. Charity is a part of Islam, but does it excuse forced face-covering and triple talaaq? Charity is an important part of Christianity, but is it an excuse for the blatant misogyny of the church? They also do the same. Attack on Muslim culture! Islamophobia! Attack on Christianity!

The idea that women are property has been going on since the birth of civilization. It needs to change, and change starts with popular culture, not legislation. Kudos to ad filmmakers and Alia for doing it.

When was anyone in Pakistan killed for shooting an ad? Since you describe this is how Pakistan is like. Any evidence?

For one, a kid was shot in the head for daring to go to school. So for much less than an ad.

For another, those who support patriarchy want precisely this. To turn it into an attack on religion, something to do with national pride, or whatever.

Lost in the noise will be women's rights.

A girl in India was killed for wearing a jeans.

My point was, India and Pakistan are more alike than the average "proud Indian" would like. It's about time such bubbles were burst, and Indians stop having this superiority complex over Pakistan.
