in my opinion he addressed it differently.
he said she doesn't like jewels and would've preferred books instead meaning what's the motivation for her to take it?
He said saans should have welcomed her with jewelry and new clothing, which he is doing on Aparna's behalf ... meaning the necklace should have been given to Imlie by Aparna and not Malini. he is also subtly taunting Malini for accepting the necklace here coz it was Imlie's right.
when he taunts that just because Imlie doesn't ask for her haq, or what is her rightful due, we tend to forget to give her things. or do things for her. he is addressing Malini's statement from yesterday that Imlie is fighting for her right and is using unethical or wrong means to get her rights, and proving that imlie has never fought for her rights ever. she has always been sacrificing.
even by getting the jewelers, he knew that she will not choose anything for herself and wanted the family to see what she is.
Imlie giving Malini the necklace tells her it's enough for her that her husband trusts her and knows her likes and dislikes. this was more than a subtle taunt, leading Malini to shed a tear.
