South Indian men do wear chains( I’m not sure about North Indian men) in fact before a wedding as a welcome, the bride’s maternal uncle will usually adorn the bridegroom with a chain or a ring. My sis in law is British , but my brother still wears a gold chain while some of my cousins who married Indian ladies don’t. 😃
