I know hindi well because I've been watching hindi movies/shows/songs since I was a baby bc of my mom :) Same thing with urdu/pakistani film/shows/songs. I have a hard time understanding proper hindi, or big words, but I get like about 90% without subtitles? For shows, I understand mostly everything they say.

Also in general bc I've been to Bangladesh several times, I can say that Bollywood is insanely popular there, IMO, more than their own drama/shows. So my cousins who grew up there - they always just watched more Indian/Pakistani content than anything else. Dramas, movies, songs, etc. Their cable either comes from India or something like that. My nieces/nephews grew up on doraemon in hindi and at one point knew better hindi than bangla 🤣.

My mom still remembers the first time she saw Shah Rukh Khan in Deewana in the theater and how everyone gushed over him. So I grew up with people who love bollywood in my house hahahaha.

Mostly everyone I know watched Indian content from such a young age that you pick up on the language. Thats how I learned hindi and urdu. I don't speak it well bc I don't have anyone to practice with, but I also don't speak bangla well either .

so basically it’s all the movies + tv shows. Nice. I didn’t know Bollywood had that kind of reach. Only recently I have started realising its perimeter 😆
