Most traditional saris tend to be on made on natural fabrics, like silk and cotton. Chiffon and net saris are much more modern, and a recent trend, but the designs passed down culturally will typically be on silk or cotton. Of the two, silk is the more 'rich' and 'festive' fabric- so for an occasion where you're gonna be dressed up traditionally. silks are common.
