I understand the confusion but I got a bit of clarity since yesterday's episode about Anirudh.
He has always LOVED Bondita... deeply and strongly, he built his life around her and kept all his promises to her even if it meant death to him. He was aware she is the perfect partner for him, he knew it from the first time he got her letter way back then, it pulled at the strings of his heart in a way no one ever could. But, knowing she is a child and the complicated history they had, he could never see her as a life partner or romantic partner because it goes against everything he stands for.
However, I am sure he must have thought at one point that once she grows up, she could be his partner. He must have definitely but I feel he always buried those thoughts deeply and only saw her as a child he loved, a person with whom he connected beyond any labels or tags of society, he loves Bondita, the soul that she is.
Now, after 8 years, he has finally has this woman in front of him and she is everything he could ever want or even dream of, he already has that undeniable and unbreakable bond with her. Age is no longer a factor. He kept holding onto those memories of choti bon to tie himself up and not give into that side of his that might have once thought that Bondita could be his.
The moment, he sees her for the women she has grown up to be, he sees the dream that he has always had come to life infront of him and he witnesses how she blossomed so beautifully and cherished their dream, he will fall head over heels for her. This is the last stage of their relationship, the love between a man and a woman. He is reaching that stage now.
