Since I missed the previous discussion on the movie putting it down now.

Majority of the people love DDLJ, not for its story or the movie itself, but for sweet memories that are attached to the movie. It's the first movie that so many couples have watched together as their date. And this was at the time when romantic relationships were still unacceptable. Naturally it has a special place in their heart and they can watch it so many times just to relive those memories.
