Adi-Imlie and the "I love you" parallels

So this just struck me while I was catching up on gif-ing Imlie ka "I love you" to her Babusahib from last week😆

There are amazing parallels to how long Imlie has suppressed herself from admitting this to Adi😆....matlab confession toh door ki baat hai - all Adi has asked from her many times is for a yes or no....do you feel anything for me? And Imlie ne wahaan bhi baar baar isko thenga dikhaa ke bol diya ki NAHIN😆.

Remember this scene from the Holi epi?😆

Aur aaj ki Imlie is like this😆

Then there was this instance from the chai date epi when Adi again asked her if she loved him...toh Imlie again shook her head with a no😆. Adi ko tab bhi pata tha ki jhoot bhool rahi hai😆

And now, she even repeats her "I love you" when he asks her to😆

Adi toh yes or no mein jawaab maang raha tha but Imlie ka confession apne aap hi aana tha....organically and spontaneously😆.....it came when he least expected to hear it from her😆....woh bhi ENGLISH mein.....haha

And this Mr. and Mrs. Tripathi parallel also cuz I just caught up on gif-ing this too😆

Imlie has truly been suppressing herself for a really long time. She progressed from outright denials, to a stage where she could not say the words to deny feelings, to acceptance and then to declaring her love. This progression happened organically and thankfully without any external interference.

Though it was frustrating for us at times, i am glad all these phases of character development were shown😊

Imlie accepted her love so spontaneously simply because her heart was filled with love and gratitude and she could not help but declare it to Aditya.

May SM & writers bless us with many more of such organic and heartwarming scenes 😃

Thank you for this post AY. I was reading up on your earlier reviews during the PD trip and after and similar parallels struck me. First was that in thier journey, surprisingly though Imlie felt the physical attraction first, Adi was way ahead of her in accepting his true feelings for her and the relationship. I remember one of your lines of how mad it made you that even with Imlie's emotional sickness, Adi beat her to the punch for the love realization during the alter ego episode. He went from pasand to aadat to zaroorat pretty quickly and understood what he felt for Imlie was something he never felt for Malini all these years.

While Imlie had those feelings in her heart, it was always overshadowed by the guilt of somehow taking him away from Malini. One of her dialogues in the episode when they get married, she says that puri zindagi kisi ka ek paise nahi Cheena, kisi ka pyaar kaise cheen loon. That was playing on her for a very long time. Everytime that she felt bad, missed him or even saved him, it was her suhag for which she was doing all that.

But the time he understood her insecurities related to the family and related to English, she really started seeing him as her "saajhedaar" like her mother told her. Again quoting one of your lines when you said that when Imlie sees Adi understanding her is when she will be able to really show her love for him. And that is exactly what happened. After he showed that he wants to see her fly, it reminded her of what he had said about rishte giving pankh. That was why before she said I love you, she said that you have always supported me and given me a reason to fight - be it customs or even other people's opinions. That was what pushed to confess to him that she now sees her more than her suhag or her husband. She sees him as an equal partner in this relationship. This for me was more telling than even those vachana they took in SK and Meethis shaadi. Then it was all talk. During the ILU episode she finally accepted and got around to executing it.

Hahah yehi toh sabse badi baat hai .. isi liye toh adi got all stunned ke jo itna simple yes/no bhi nahi kar paati ek dum spontaneously bol di and not even once but like said it again when he asked too.. isi liye he got so surprised and had to do a phirse bolo moment. They have really come a long way

I said it back in the thread too there is this lightness in the way the I love you happened .. the guilt has unburdened her so much and am so happy that it has caz we see this bindaas bachi ab jo khulke apne ko apna keh sakti hai.. when you see it parallel it is heartbreaking even more to seee her suppress and deny something that has been omin her heart for way too long and she had the full right over since forever ..but woh apni hi cheez ko apna na keh paana caz of someone else's delusion..

The way her face used to always drop the effort she used to put even in those heavy headshakes and nazrein churana caz she knew he cam read her he knows very well what is her heart but yeh affirmation dena nahi chahti thi for the sake of koi aur.. kabse adi yehi haq chahta tha yehi sunana chahta tha.. and ab mila isse and I guess sabar ka Phil meetha hi hota hai caz jab mila toh itna freely mila ..free will main mila and khili hui imlie se mila who couldn't resist anymore and had to do the shrug again too to tell ke you knew it all along now am stamping on it hehe.. I am glad he got it now caz it makes it worth it so worth it

Imlie ne kitna nahi Saha toh jab usko itna sa bhi apna kehne ka mann karta hai and itni si khushi bhi milti hai toh one wants to cheer one feels the high for her and feel genuinly happy and all this is worth cherishing and savoring so much more 🤗🤗🧿🧿🧿🧿🧿

@bold: They really have, man😆.....gif karte waqt zyada realize hota hai....haha otherwise toh epi by epi it feels mostly weighed down by depressive crap or Didi bakwaas.....but overall when you look at from where they started and where they are now......it's been quite the arc😊.

Imlie did indeed suppress her emotions for him for a multitude of reasons....guilt, insecurity etc....woh baat aur hai that she always kept expressing her love for him in many other ways even if she didn't give him the actual words😆.....so he knew what she felt for him but felt frustrated that she wouldn't accept it when he asked her.....lol and she frustrated us right along with frustrating him too😆.

It was a sweet touch to make her give him the words in English.....it kinda underscored the evolution it took to get her to this point.

Indeed ! Didi itna dimaag khati hai ke one ends up sometimes missing ke kahan se baat shru hui thi and uske culmination kya hai...mostly they have aced those culminations I hope it keeps going on and thry keep giving us such beautiful closures to the loop.. but I also wish ke beech main humari memory ko itna na fade kar dia karein ke phir humein aise refresh karna pade I want to register these arcs and curves more naturally and be blown..

Ahh bless these 2 .. if not for the beautiful way they are being carried forward I would have gone long ago.

I don't think you understand how it was for those of us watching in real time to process how fast that epi moved😆.....so there was just a LOT to digest that day and yes, on first watch it felt rushed to me.....but over time I started to see the 0 or 100 pattern of both Adi as well as the writers so adjusted my expectations accordingly *shrugs*😆. Back then toh yeh bhi clear nahin tha if Adi even realized his love in that alter ego scene😆.....we didn't know what to make of him even admitting PASAND😆. Woh toh baad mein jaakar clear hua when he admitted it in the hut scene. They were making Adi oscillate in confusion for a bit even after the alter ego scene.

As for Imlie....I don't remember which thread I mentioned this point about her wanting understanding from Adi.....aap itne expert ho gaye ho on my old threads toh citations bhi de diya kijiye ab😆.....but I think I said all this before they flipped her character with the random dhokebaaz sidetrack.....uske baad se I'm not really sure how exactly they want to address insecurity or understanding between Adi-Imlie *shrugs*😆

I just liked how her ILU came about in general.....this was in sync with the original Imlie...who's loved him for a long time but is now only now beginning to unburden herself from the guilt a bit and accept the truth of her love for him beyond just the suhaag and pati labels.

Ha ha I remember that episode and your thread. It was so fast for us in the first watch. Because according to the timeline Adi and Imlie woke up holding hands and both felt they committed a sin 😆 and then we got the sindoor on the shirt scene the same day and the dance - so it felt rushed 😆 and we all adjusted our expectations 😆

The hut scene obviously cleared the confusions.
