I have a different perspective and it is not about who Shagun turned out to be in present times but what her relationship was with Shaurya.
The Shaurya that supported Anokhi was Anokhi's Shaurya. He is a man crazily in love with his wife so much that he went for sindur wedding to hold onto her and went against all his loved ones. But the bigger question is what is different about him- He knows what his wife wants and why. He feels loved and desired by Anokhi. He is at peace with himself because his wife has bought joy to his heart and got rid of all the bitterness. She has played a role in mending his relationship with his parents which was his heart's true desire and the reason for his perspective on career women. She managed to pull all this off in mere 6 months or less (their attraction truly started after the rustication incident which I assume was tied to mid term exams)
The man that broke engagement with Shagun was Shagun and BM's Shaurya. He was angry, bitter, prejudiced man who felt like a charity case and no one's priority. Despite being in relationship with Shaurya for two years, Shagun never realized who Shaurya really was or that he was dealing with tons of emotional baggage. She sucked up to BM and ignored Astha and Shaan. Shaurya never even knew that she wanted to pursue higher education. The desperation of Anokhi and Shagun to find Shaurya when he was kidnapped was at very different levels.
She has to accept that Shaurya and her might have loved each other but their relationship was nowhere close to the intimacy and understanding Shaakhi have. She has to accept that Shaurya and her were not good match and she deserves someone who feels just as passionately about her.
I have always found it interesting that Shaurya says and believes that there is no ego in love then how come he had a huge ego with Shagun despite loving her.
