Something about Dev sahab's songs , that I have come to love was their depth....
Agreed! Also, it helped that Navketan usually signed on SDB to compose music for most of their films, and he was able to create melodies that suited Dev's onscreen persona of the loose-limbed, sophisticated, and charming urban hero.
Hum Dono was a notable exception where Jaidev, SDB's assistant was signed on. And the rest is history. The two songs you've posted are brilliant but so is the entire album. Not one song is below average - Prabhu tero naam, Allah tero naam, Jahan mein aisa kaun hai, Kabhi khud pe - all masterpieces.
After having such a huge musical hit, one would think Jaidev would be flooded with more opportunities especially with Navketan. Unfotunately, it wasn't so. 'Guide' went to SDB again and Jaidev went back to being his assistant. Imagine my shock when I found out recently that two of Guide's best loved songs (and my personal favorites) - Din dhal jaaye and Tere mere sapne - were actually composed by Jaidev! And he was never credited for them! 😲 😭
