I’m halfway through Sputnik Sweetheart and surprisingly, I like it. I guess it also has to do with the fact that I have read a couple of Murakami books earlier and I’m familiar of the way in which he writes his characters. Also, I went in with low expectations so that could also be another reason.

I haven't read Norse Mythology. I thought I'd read a bit about it from Rick Riordan's books before I read anything else. His series on Greek and Roman mythology helped me a lot. In fact, that's where I developed my interest from.

Between Circe and SoA, I'd personally recommend you to read SoA first. It's a little easier to read than Circe, it being paced faster, and the language is easier too. Also, there are only a few names which is great when you're only getting into Greek mythology.

I think it's the writing style. There's way too much philosophy for me. And more similes and metaphors than actual interaction between the characters or even general description about people, their feelings or the settings. I read a little spoiler and I think I'd have liked the book if it were written in a different style.

Still, I've heard a lot of people liking the ending, even those who didn't like the beginning, so I'd try to get there.

❓Since you've read his other works, I want to ask you a question. Everywhere I read about his work, people say they find the theme and the basic storyline of all his books very similar. Did you feel the same?

Even I finished reading it a couple of days ago. That’s what Murakami’s novels are like - confusing. There is always an aspect that you are not sure if you understood completely. One of his books has a talking cat as one of the characters. Sputnik Sweetheart for some reason feels incomplete to me. After reading it also I felt that I wasn’t done with it.

Exactly. I had some many questions at the end. I googled them. But I came upon the conclusion that this book is written this way... To confuse us. It leaves us open ended to draw conclusion as how we seemed to like. I am not sure I appreciate it.

@Diya: Then, The Song of Achilles is what I shall start off with.

Anam, if you've already selected the books for the June readathon, can you share them a day earlier (today)? I need to strategize my reading plan😆 Also need to make sure I've uploaded all the books on my reading app before the month starts, which for some reason is taking multiple tries and a good deal of luck since the last couple of weeks.
