I think a good way to describe her decisions is fight or flight. I relate to her this basic fundamental characteristic. If you have strict parents you understand that almost everything thing in life taht gives you happiness is a fight. So after a point you begin operating in Fight or Flight mode. Sometimes you stand your ground and fight but most of the times you realise the reality of the situation.

Sorry for the rant but I agree with your analysis.
