Absolutely!
We all want good content and writing but will makers continue to work on it if viewers resign themselves to a character's vices? Why will the CVs make an effort to work on the layers when a tried and tested formula works? Isn't that where makers like Gul have been able to set a toxic pattern just by working on good casting where everything is brushed under the carpet because the "chemistry" is good!
Everyone who has signed up for this show knows that Shaurya is flawed so why get salty if the flaws are acknowledged? Differing opinions is fine but why the intolerance to an opposing opinion? Why are the ones calling out what is wrong as wrong being patronised as "This is just a show" (duh! of course it is which is why people are watching, interpreting and discussing it) or best "He is just human" (and so are Anokhi and Ahir, why should they be subjected to indignity?)
He is human hence the flaw agreed, he is human hence the expectation to acknowledge the mistake and correct it.
This is just entertainment agreed but it is also Art because it involves aesthetic representation, writing and perspectives hence open to interpretation and because the premise of the show promised to address a social message, discourses are bound to happen and should happen because makers themselves have asked for it! They brought in the social aspect and not the viewers and even if we did there is nothing wrong because content comes with responsibility.
Exactly that's my point too! If we wont have the guts to call out his vices then how the makers are supposed to show the growth in his character.
I signed up for this show because I saw a ray of hope. Of course I was entertained and I enjoyed the chemistry but at some point I could connect with the characters too.
I still do.
Also, what if it is just a show. It's no ordinary show or else I won't be here typing this and spending my time on this forum for nothing. Of course I am hooked beyond limits.
As a writer myself, I see fiction more than just fiction. I observe little details and learn. I fall in love and I cry when things don't work. So nobody gets the right to decide if it's "just" a show for me, for you and for anyone because if it was then we wouldn't have been here.
And humans have flaws. We know, we are humans too not vampires but as humans only how does it make us termed as "emotional" as we acknowledge the flaws of a character- another human?!
Makers like Gul have done enough in feeding the toxicity to audience by making the shows that although represent "love" has anything but it.
Chemistry is one thing but using that chemistry to serve harassment and mysogeny on silver platter is another.
Ps- Mama bear I posted this on the main forum and I request you to copy this and post it there. I want more people to read this.
