Chapter 21 Version 2.0

6 years later

There was a persistent knock on Neil’s door. He was in his vanity van which was parked outside the concert venue in New york.

“F**k of whoever is there.” Neil shouted in frustration.

“Its me, Mickey. Neil its time for your entry. Come out now.” Mickey replied as he kept knocking on the door.

“I am not in a mood. You guys handle this time.” Neil replied in the same voice.

“Neil, you know it very well you are the star of our band. People have come to see you. We have been on the stage for a while now but now we cant handle the crowd anymore. All are screaming for you. If you didn’t come I fear they will get violent. Organizers are also constantly asking us to bring you on the stage or else they will file suit against us for breach of contract. So, please come out Neil.” Mickey banged the door with his fist.

Its been a while now. It has become Neil’s habit to disobey everyone and break all the rules, terms and condition. And producers, organizers hate him for his unprofessional behavior but they don’t have any option except to take his tantrums. Because their band Hurricane has become immensely popular. Neil is the face of Hurricane. Ever since their first album after winning that competition become a chartbuster they haven’t looked back. Albums after albums, music concerts, tours etc. They have been busy ever since.

They have got the appreciation, money, fame, popularity and what not. They are truly living their dream. Hurricane have become one of the most famous music band ever this industry had known with many records at its name. People are crazy for them. They have tasted success like they wanted to and Neil as a lead singer and guitarist is the most important member of their band. He is the reason where they are today. His talent, his singing, his style even his mistakes people appreciate. They are just simply crazy after him. He is truly today the King of music, the ultimate rockstar. People die to see him, meet him in person, and attend his concerts. He is living his dream but he had paid a huge price for all this. He has lost his innocence, his love, his identity.

Mickey had seen his friend undergoing this painful transformation. Its like he is almost a different person now, not the one he used to know. He is Neil but has lost his soul. The only time he gets glimpses of old Neil is when he is performing. Music has kept him alive somehow or else his friend would have been died long ago.

Mickey came out of his thoughts when once again a guy from organizers team rushed to him.

“Sir please bring him on stage or else the audience will break everything here. They are already going crazy.” Organizer pleaded to save his show and investment he made in it.

Mickey nodded and knocked again on the door, “Neil, enough now. Please come out.” Mickey shouted.

“Shshsh…kitna chillate ho tum Mickey. Let me relax man.” Neil finally finally opened the door.

He was just in his jeans. Neil opened the door wide to let Mickey in when he heard a shrill voice of a girl as she almost shrieked seeing another man inside. She quickly tried to cover herself with a duvet. Mickey was embarrassed and turned around to go out again to give privacy to the lady but Neil stopped him.

“Don’t bother, come in. she is just going.” Neil said casually.

Girl looked at him in disbelief.

“Come on what are you waiting for? Move your a** out of here quickly Suzie.” Neil replied.

“Its Annie.” The girl corrected him.

“Ya, whatever. Gather your things and get out.” Neil said without even looking at her.

The girl gathered her clothes and somehow managed to wear them under the duvet. She stood up to go out not without giving a look of contempt and hatred to Neil. He saw it and insulted the girl some more. “What? Don’t give me that look. What were you thinking? I slept with you once…that’s all you are worthy of. You can consider it as your lucky day that you got a chance to get in my bed.”

The girl started crying at her insult and this infuriated Neil even more. “Don’t ever try these crocodile tears in front of me. I know your kind. Still if you feel insulted then take this because this is what all of you want. Isnt it?” Neil said and threw some dollars on her. “I hope this will be enough. Now gather your fake modesty and dignity and get lost.” Neil said and showed the door to the girl.

Mickey was embarrassed to witness this but he knew his friend has changed completely. The heart break he faced years ago has damaged him forever. He doesn’t believe in love anymore. He just believe in use and throw just like his emotions were used and crushed to the ground. All his friends tried to hook him up with someone else or asked to move on from past but he doesn’t let anyone do that. He is still stuck there. Even though it gives him pain but he has refused to nurse the wounds given by his love. He had numerous flings, night stands since his break up but he never settles down with anyone. He treats all of them like dirt. Its like he has been on revenge mission from every girl he come across but still hasn’t find peace. He wants to punish the whole world and himself to let his heart fall for her without realizing her true face.

“Come on its time for your entry.” Mickey reminded him once again.

“Ya, just give a minute. I am not in my senses right now.” Neil said and searched something. When he didn’t found it he became restless. “F**k! Where it is?” He cursed until he finally found his thing.

Mickey watched with sad eyes as his friend who didnt even touch alcohol previously now drowned himself in the poison. Neil opened the small packet containing white powder and made a line of it on the table. He inhaled all of it and sat on the sofa for a while until it got mix in his blood running in his veins, giving him the much needed kick, the insanity which only kept him sane to perform, to live through life somehow. Without it, he would not have been alive. Once the cocaine charged him up, he picked up his guitar and stood up to go the stage.

“Atleast wear you shirt.” Mickey reminded him as he almost ran behind him.

“I have enough clothes on for performance.” He said and made a grand entry on the stage.

People who were till now going crazy demanding for his entry now went crazier seeing their idol in front of them. Girls stopped breathing seeing him just in jeans.The bouncers and the security had to be doubled around the stage as people were trying hard to jump on stage and touch him.

He came on the mike and strum his guitar and the whole hall went silent to hear him.

As he stopped singing, the crowd started screaming,” once more.” Neil took a brief pause and closed his eyes to feel the audience applauding and cheering. It gives him certain kind of satisfaction. Keep him away from his pain. He lives only when he is on stage. Rest of the life is just a painful affair which he passes somehow. Off stage he is either drunk or under the effect of drugs so much that he doesn’t even remember what is he doing, which girl is in his bed, has he eaten anything since whole day or not? Where he is walking? What he is doing? All of this…all thanks to that gold digger Mini who broke his heart mercilessly and took away his identity, his soul with her. “I hate you Mini Singh.” He said like a mantra as he remembered her.

“Veer balika, look, Neil is on tv.” An excited Arya increased the volume of the set.

“How many times I have to tell you Arya stop following him. We have nothing to do with him but yet you behave like some fan girl.” Mini scolded her as she tried to snatch the remote control from Arya’s hand.

“But he is our Neil. I am tired of asking it from you now but you never tell me what went wrong between you two? Why you guys broke up Veer balika?” Arya asked once again.

" why you have started calling me Veer balika?" Mini asked to divert Arya's attention.

"I call you that because you are very brave. I admire you because the way you have handled everything after mom and dad....I am proud of you. But dont you distract me from the real question. You have to tell me this time. What happened between you and Neil? Why our Neil has become so indifferent?" Arya asked again

Mini was about to reply when the news anchor told the breaking news, “Rockstar Neil Oberoi has been arrested by New york Police for drunk and driving. Last night he was high on alcohol and drugs and he smashed his car into fire pump almost killing few persons on footpath. This is not the first time the celebrity has run into trouble with law n order. He has been controversial star, always remains in limelight sometimes for his great record breaking music numbers and sometimes for mocking rules and regulations.”

“Did you hear that Arya? He is not our Neil. He is someone else.” Mini said with hatred and finally snatched the remote from Arya to lower the volume. Arya looked down in disappointment.

“Hello lovelies, how are you and how is my favorite patient?” Dr. Jay asked as he entered the hospital room where Arya was admitted.

“I am fine doctor.”Arya gave a weak smile.

Dr. Jay called for the nurses and instructed them to take Arya for the procedure. Mini wished her best of luck. Once she was gone Mini looked hopefully at Jay. “Tell me there is some good news.” Mini asked.

“Yes, Mini, finally.We got the donor. I have checked the test reports also. Everything is fine. We can go for the transplant.” Dr. Jay shared the news and Mini couldn’t hold her happy tears as she thanked God for the little mercy he had shown on them after years of testing their patience.

“Jay, you don’t know how happy I am. I was breaking from inside seeing Arya’s condition and I couldn’t even cry in front of her as she would have lost her courage to fight this disease.” Mini shared her pain.

Its been 6 years, six long years since Arya was diagnosed with chronic end stage renal disease. Doctors have declared both her kidneys are very weak and she cant survive on them. She will eventually need a transplant. Since then Arya’s condition had only deteriorated and she had been put to frequent dialysis because of which she was surviving somehow. Getting a donor and perfect match was another long struggle both the sisters had fought. After long time their prayers have been answered now.

“When we can go for the operation?” Mini asked wiping her tears.

“As soon as you arrange the money.” Jay answered and it took away Mini’s smile once again. But she gained control somehow. “You know Jay, ab hamari haalat pehle jaisi nahi rahi. Ab kuch nahi bacha hai hamare pas. Lekin main phir bhi puri koshish karungi jald se jald paiso ka intezaam karne ki. How much it will cost approximately?” Mini asked.

“It will cost somewhere around 10 lakhs for the operation and then post transplant care, medicines, test, hospitalization and frequent check ups….all in all you arrange for 20 lakhs at least.” Jay replied.

“What? 20 lakhs? Jay I have been saving all these years and I have some money but 20 lakh is too much. I need time. I have to make inquiry for loan or consult the NGOs for help as I cant arrange this amount on my own.” Mini shared her problems.

“I can understand your problem Mini but we don’t have much time. Itne saalo baad jakar to donar mila hai agar time par paiso ka intezaam nahi hua to that donar will be allotted to next emergency case. You have maximum a week’s time. Do your best. I will see how can I help you.” Dr. Jay said and left Mini with her worries.

Mini was thinking hard from where she can arrange money when the same piece of news was repeated again on the news channel and Mini’s heart was again filled with hatred for Neil. That man was enjoying his life, getting wasted, partying like animal, having multiple affairs, living his dream and because of him her life has turned into hell. Here she and her sister have become orphans. She is struggling to manage day to day chores in her small salary, her sister is struggling with life threatening disease…all because of this man. ‘I hate you Neil Oberoi.” Mini said with gritted teeth.

Neil changed completely . Mini have no time to change. My poor girl stuck with so many problems she blamed Neil for it and Neil blamed her and Arya poor baby is not well. Hanu is no more 😳 wish he was alive . Waiting for flashback to see what exactly happened which made Mini to agree to yash and hanu died .
