No, he didn't falter because he believes in loyalty. He believed he was in love with Mini, and he did stay true to her, until he married Bon, and found a new person he should be loyal to. If Mini hadn't turned evil, he probably would always keep a soft corner for her, and remember her as a lost love. But even then, his loyalty was to his wife. If he believes he is in love and there are no other conflicting loyalties, he wouldn't label any other attraction as love.
