Chapter 8

Khushi lay awake past midnight, as she had been doing since the past...well she didn’t exactly remember how long it had been now. The days when she used to be happy--living like a normal girl with a loving family--were just a faded memory, almost like a dream which had no place in reality anymore.

She counted the stars, counting all the wrong things Shyam had done to her with each star. This was the only thing that would drain her emotionally and help her fall asleep. Tonight, though, while counting the stars, a different thought crossed her mind. She wondered if Arnav counted the stars too? She didn’t know much about his life, but from what she had seen, his eyes conveyed something to her. Something dark. Could it be possible that his past was also as troubled as hers? Perhaps, next time when she went on a walk with him, she would suggest he try this method of counting stars to fall asleep. It was relaxing.

Arnav paced back and forth in his bedroom, reminiscing all that had happened throughout the day. Sleep had evaded him. He was still trying to put two and two together. Shyam Sharma. Lawyer. Khushi’s step mother. What was this puzzle?

His thoughts drifted to Khushi. What would she be doing right now? Her tone had suggested that she was missing him. A smile crept on his lips as he remembered the phone conversation between them a few hours earlier. What was happening to him? Why was this strange girl, who he didn’t even know existed a few days ago, taking over his mind?

He decided that he should shake off these thoughts and sleep. Tomorrow would be a long day as he had a lot to do. He needed to find a way to reach Khushi’s step mother and extract as much information as he could from her. He didn’t know why, but for some reason, he wanted to safeguard Khushi and give her a normal life as soon as possible. He wanted to punish anyone who had wronged her. Maybe some things just didn’t have a reason. Or maybe he just wanted to make sure that Anjali was in safe hands, and that his doubts about Shyam were wrong. Yes, that must be it, he reassured himself.

He brushed his teeth and was just getting himself into bed when his phone rang.

The name Neema flashed bright on the screen. He thought it was Khushi, but as soon as he put the phone to his ear, he felt disappointed.

“Hello Arnav beta. Khushi had told me that you called. How are you? When are you coming back?”

“I am fine Neema. Actually, Anjali is not feeling good these days, so it may take me some time. Is Khushi okay?”

Neema smiled at Arnav’s concern for the girl. She had never seen him so soft and concerned about another person except for Akash and Anjali. “Khushi is in good hands beta. You don’t need to worry. She just went to sleep a few moments before I called you. I am always keeping an eye on her.”

“Neema…” Arnav hesitated for a moment and Neema knew he wanted to talk about something important. She had grown to know Arnav quite well after spending so much time with him. She was like his mother after all.

“What do you want to say Arnav beta? You know that you can share anything with me na. Tell me . Your heart may feel lighter.” Neema reassured him with her motherly words and tone.

Arnav at once felt at ease. “Neema, I need you to do something for me.”

“What is it beta?”

“In the morning, when you take Khushi for a walk, can you try to ask her about her parents? I got to know that she has a step mother who had got her married to Shyam. I want to know where her step mother lives. Could you do this for me? This is the only way that I will be able to reach her husband.”

“I don’t know, Arnav. What if she gets another panic attack?”

“Please. Just ask her casually without stressing her out.”

“Okay. I will try. How is Anjali doing?”

“Just the usual morning sickness, except it has been getting worse lately. Shyam isn’t letting me take her to the doctor.”

“Take care of her. Don’t worry about Khushi, she is doing fine with me.”

“Thanks Neema. Bye.”

“Bye beta.” Niharika pressed the end call button and walked back to the room to check on Khushi. Khushi was fast asleep.

Shyam woke up with a start as he heard Anjali coming out of the bathroom, heaving heavily after she had vomited for the tenth time in the past hour.

“Will you let me sleep or not, Anjali? You know how much work I have to do in the morning. You don’t give a damn about your husband, do you?”

Anjali looked up at Shyam, bewildered by his tone. He had never spoken to her so harshly before.

Shyam immediately realised his mistake and tried to cover up. “I’m so sorry.” He took her into his arms and rocked her as he spoke, “I am just so stressed about you these days. You know that I can’t see you in pain. It frustrates me.”

Shyam mentally kicked himself. How could he be so careless? He almost ruined his own game. Anjali was his jackpot. He had to keep her happy, at least until he got what he wanted from Arnav. He knew that Anjali was Arnav’s weakness, and if he hurt Anjali even a tiny fraction, Arnav would not take a minute to kick him out. He knew that Arnav didn’t like him since the first day, but was only tolerating him for the sake of Anjali. He needed to do something to impress Arnav. He needed to make sure Anjali would forget the blunder he had just made.

“Anjali, I have found a good doctor for you. Tomorrow we are leaving for Nainital. Get your clothes packed and be ready.”

So sorry if the chapter is a little short! I just didn't wanna drag it and at the same time, I wanted to end it at a cliffhanger. 😛 What do you think will happen next? Will Shyam go to Nainital with Anjali, or something will stop him? Will he come face to face with Khushi?

Hope Arnav know about shyam as soon as possible before shyam reach khushi.

Kuch yesa ho jaye ki shyam nainital ja hi na paye.

I love how you have started the chapter from stars. In the last chapter, Arnav was wondering why Khushi was looking at the stars... and in this one we get the answer. Although her reason is distressing, the fact that her thoughts veered off to Arnav and she thought of telling him to count the stars too.... this is heartwarming 😳.

I'm happily surprised that Arnav is already doubtful of Shyam here. He loves Anjali and is quiet for her... but if and when he finds any evidence against Shyam, we can be assured that he will take immediate action and the chances of misunderstandings between Arshi are less. Unless the upcoming writers bring in unexpected twists 😆.

Poor Anjali, I feel for her. She is being played with without even being aware. Though Khushi has faced worse from Shyam, she always knew his true colors. On the other hand, Anjali is living in a bubble and the day it bursts, it's going to prick her a lot. We can just hope that she will look at everything fairly without being blind in love... like she was in the show.

By the looks here, Shyam may make it easier for her to believe the truth... whenever it is revealed. With Khushi having escaped, Shyam has no other outlet to vent out his frustration and anger. Today was a small slip and he managed to cover it up, but something tells me that he isn't going to be able to keep up his facade for long.

The last part was shocking. What a twist Hina! 😲

Just as we thought that Khushi is safe in Nainital and will start healing there, Shyam is all set to go there... Anjali in tow. Is he aware that Khushi is also in Nainital... or is this a chance event? Only time and the next writer can reveal this 😆.

Read the last 3 parts together. And it's just amazing. So Khushi misses Arnav and they feel something for each other.

I so hope Arnav gets to know about Shyam and I don't want Shyam and Khushi to meet soon not until Arnav gets to know the truth about Shyam.

Arnav being suspicious of shyam is the best thing that can happen.....it wont take him a second to throw him out once shyam's true colours are revealed.

Beautiful chapter Hina!

Arnav and Khushi are thinking about each other at the same time. Khushi noticed that something is bothering Arnav and she was going to suggest that he should count stars to fall asleep. What a nice idea?

Anjali is Shyam's meal ticket. He is not going to ruin his plans before he got what he wants. I am thinking, is he going to kidnap his own baby for ransom from Arnav. Otherwise, why would Arnav give anything to Shyam?

Arnav has started his investigation and he wanted to find Khushi's step mother. Hope Khushi tells Neema who her step mom is.

Last but not the least, he found a doctor who lives in Nainital? Is there a shortage of doctors/gynaecologists in Delhi? Would Arnav or Payal suspect something or let him do whatever he wants?

Oh I hope Shyam doesn’t get to know abt khushi being in Nainital and Arnav stop him from going there.

I hope some how the family persuades Shyam and Anjali to stay in Delhi... it’s good neither for Anjali nor for Khushi... Wish Arnav gets to know about the step mother sooner rather than later...
