That is how SP works. They will make us fall in love with a character so much and then they will ruin it so bad. But you cannot do anything you are so attached to it then you cannot stop without not knowing that what happened to them.

The problem is when you watch something different you have do involve your mind and all and think about it. But seeing the tried and tested thing, you know what is to happen it's just easier to watch, it's easier for writers to write. Then why would makers work on new ideas when the audience is enjoying them.
