Actually guys vansh was never a mastermind from the beginning of the serial. There were many times riddhima could have been caught but still she managed to escape using kabirs help. Also he was unaware of APs truth. Kabir infiltrated into the house without anyone's knowledge. He waited for 3 years to know about his mom's killer. Only difference is that he had some swag and bossy attitude and was scary in initial episodes also he didn't like Kabir that time but now that's missing

He was a mastermind only during sunny track and that too was a flop
