Heres a follow up part -2 of this story!  As always I look forward to your comments. If you like it, please do take a few mins to show your love with a comment and if you have ideas/suggestions, please mention those too.

Sai was very happy that virat had accepted her prize money and bought himself some gifts.  He meant a lot to her. After her aabaa's death, he was her family. He had done his best to take care of her and Sai often felt like she was imposing too much but today she felt content that for a change, she was able to do something for him. It was very small and almost inconsequential in front of everything Virat had done for her but it was a start! Plus she was also happy that she had made him proud. Whenever she thought about how virat had taken a stand for her education, she felt the pressure to always push herself so that she could excel in her academics.  So that she could not only fulfil but exceed his expectations. She never wanted to let him down. She did not like  disappointing him-  but unfortunately since she had moved to CM with him there had beem several instances where she felt like her behavior did not go down well with Virat even though she thought she was right. But  her academics was another matter- if she worked hard enough, there'd be no scope for any disappointment.

Sai focused her attention back on studying.

Virat settled on the bed reading the newspaper. He fell asleep a little later. When Sai eventually glanced up she saw that it was midnight already and virat had long fallen asleep in a slightly uncomfortable position. She walked up to him, slowly adjusted the pillow without waking him up, covered him with the blanket. Next she gathered her books and put them in her bag and turned off the lights and left the room so that he wouldn't get disturbed. She went to the balcony and settled herself there. An hour later she was still studying but was getting a little tired as well as hungry. She went to the kitchen and prepared a thermos flask of hot water and found the jar of instant coffee powder and sugar and spoons. She headed back to the terrace and made herself a cup of strong hot black coffee with a little bit of sugar. She felt a bit refreshed after that and continued studying. But eventually a few hours later even the caffeine wore off and she found her eyes drooping and she passed out on the sofa in the balcony with her book on top of her, still wearing her specs.

Meanwhile virat suddenly stirred in his sleep. He woke up a little disoriented and saw that it was still dark. He was just about to go back to sleep when suddenly he realized that the singhad killa was missing. He sat up straight and realized even more importantly that so was his wife! He looked alarmed now. He turned on the lamp, rubbed his eyes and looked at the other side of the bed. It looked made. Did that mean Sai never came to bed? The bathroom door was half open - she wasnt there. He looked up at the clock, it was very early in the morning. Where could Sai be?

He left his room and was on his way past his corridor to head downstairs when he felt a gush of cool air from the terrace balcony. He went to shut the doors and stopped looking at the scene. There she was. Sprawled on the sofa , one leg off it with her book on top of her, still wearing her spectacles but fast asleep. On the table in front of the sofa lay more  books and notes and also the thermos, the jars of coffee/sugar and a half finished mug of black coffee. Virat just gazed at her fondly. Suddenly he noticed Sai have an involuntary shiver. Virat realized she must be cold, and he immediately got worried. "What to do with this girl" he thought- "yahaan thand mein kaun padhta hai..."

Ek shawl/sweater bhi nahi hai iske paas

He walked up to her and kneeled beside the sofa. He gradually took her book away. Lifted her leg and placed it on the sofa. Next he took her spectacles off. He couldnt help but pay attention to each of her features with an admiring gaze. It wasnt often that he got to see her at such close quarters. His eyes drank her in.  Her wheatish conplexion, her eyes-  closed now but when open her big hazel eyes were unmissable. They often flashed in annoyance but if you looked closely you could see that theres more than met the gaze, there was a childlike innocence, when she was being sarcastic/witty they would light up with a twinkle and when she laughed they would crinkle cutely with crows feet. Her perfectly arched eyebrows and long lashes that just made her eyes stand out. Her long perfect nose which matched her personality- sharp!  He loved it when she wore the nathni sometimes... It highlighted the beauty of her nose. Her high full cheeks which would turn slightly pink when she was angry and also when she laughed hard. Her lips- they were neither too thin nor too full and her smile was her best asset. He noticed a few freckles, spots and blemishes on her skin from upclose which he thought only made her prettier- his Sai didn't know the abc of makeup, she had a natural glow but he loved that she didn't cake herself up to look flawless. He loved that her skin also reflected her essence- not flawless but effortlessly beautiful. Her dark circles were proof of how hard she worked and the long hours of studying she did. Virat knew that being a doctor would be hard work but seeing Sai he realized just how much effort went behind it. And this was just the first year. Once she started her clinical years things would get even more hectic but he knew that Sai would overcome every challenge to fulfil her dreams and ambitions. It wasnt just hers- it was her aabaas too and now it was his ! This journey of Sai's had become personal for him. He was as invested in it as his own path to becoming an ips officer. As he was thinking his fingers moved to her face of his own accord to caress a strand of her hair away. Her hair- jet black, wavy and had their own mind just like their owner. Sometimes she wore them down, sometimes in a braid, and sometimes in a messy bun or tight up knot. But no matter how she did her hair he liked it. It reflected her many moods. He smiled as he thought about all her moods- all the" navarasa"of emotions played out on her face with so much clarity. She was so expressive. She never hid her emotions. Dil mein jo hai vohi zubban aur chehre par bhi hai. It was admirable in todays world of artifice and malice to be like Sai. She was an open book. In his occupation he had learned to read people pretty accurately but with Sai , it was refreshing that he didnt need to. She was always honest and straightforward, sometimes too much! He smiled as he recalled telling her in several instances to be a little tactful. But Sai toh sai hai... she was his baby patakha, his toofan mail who could never be quiet without speaking her mind except when she was asleep- then she looked serene and peaceful. He had been unknowingly caressing her hair when suddenly she turned and curled herself. He noticed her shiver again and chastised himself for getting lost in his thoughts. He gradually picked her sleeping form up and gripped her in his warm embrace and slowly trying not to jostle her, he picked her up. He had barely taken a few steps when he felt her stir awake. She looked up at him in confusion and then her eyes grew wide.

Sai- virat sir aap ye kya kar... She started to say.

Virat- shh. Thodi der chup raho.

Sai- par

Virat- kahaan na chup he said and then adjusted her in his arms again and walked to their room and softly placed her on the bed.

But ofcourse Sai immediately sprang up and looked at the clock.

Sai- oh no, 4.30 baj gaye.

Virat- Sai, sirf 430 baje hai. please tum thik se so jao.

Sai-  nahi. Vaise bhi mujhe 5 baje uthna ta.

Virat- lekin Sai tum bahut der tak jaag rahi thi. Mujhe pata hai tumhaari abhi thodi der pahle hi aakh lagi hogi.

Sai- na.. nahi. Mein toh 12-1 baje tak sogayi thi

Virat- Sai, please- tumse jhoot bilkul nahi bola jaata toh try bhi mat karo. Vaise bhi tumhaari black coffee ke mug dekh kar mujhe pata hai ki tum 230-3 baje se pahle toh nahi soi hogi. Ab please bahas mat karo aur sojao.

He climbed into bed, turned off the lights except for the dim nightlamp and pushed her back on the bed.

Virat- mujhe pata hai tumhaari kal class hai toh mein 630-7  baje tak tumhe utha doonga, ok? Kabhi toh mera kahna maano.

Sai- par ghar ke kaam karke college jaana hai, toh 630-7 uthoongi toh late ho jaaungi.

Virat- koi ghar ka kaam nahi karna. Mein baat karlunga kaku se. Ab chup chaap sojao.

Sai was going to reply but she let out an involuntary yawn and immediately looked at him sheepishly.

Virat shook his head at her fondly.

Virat- ab please sojao aur mujhe bhi thodi der aur sone do.

Sai just nodded and closed her eyes and curled herself up into a ball.

Virat pulled the blanket over her and settled himself back in bed too.

And as he laid facing her suddenly he realised he had an unobstructed view of her because there was no singhad killa.

And for reasons unknown to himself, virat couldnt get himself to place the pillow wall. Instead he just moved a tad closer to Sai, just enough that their hands were touching. He linked his pinky finger with hers and closed his eyes and was soon lulled back into slumber.

❤️❤️❤️

I am melting.  This chapter was so heart warming.   The balcony scene played out in my mid.  Virat getting lost looking at Sai.  Him noticing and admiring  her beauty.   And acknowledging the dedication of Sai towards her goals.   This was a perfect setting for the future.

I wonder what will kaku say when Virat tells her about Sai's house work
