Exactly! You can't just come up with an idea and call it pathbreaking. If everywhere people could come up with change, then we wouldn't call them pathbreaking at all.
Totally agree with the shows. In fact, there is this Bengali quotation -
Shohoj Kotha BolTe Amay Bolo Je
Shohoj Kotha Jaina Bola Shohoje
Which means, it's rather more difficult to convey a simple thing. And honestly I read a lot of reviews, mostly positive but some were like it's giving superficial solution and all. My question is, in a 100 minutes movie, how thorough you can become?
Even then they had addressed an extremely vital issue - Domestic violence and its lifelong implication on children who grow up watching their mother suffering like that.
And while there quite a lot of tender moments between mother and daughter, I personally loved the arguments and how real they were about it.
I think it's safe to say, we are a mixture of not just our birth parents but a lot of our ancestors. Some who might not even like. But during an argument, often our parents point out to our resemblance to them and it hurts.
So the scene where Mishti called Cheeni her father's daughter and she said, I have your blood too - it really struck a cord.
Then again they had this extreme fight yet, when Sudip left the house and asked Cheeni to think about what she wants and if she wants him in her life or not, she was crying in rain, recalling him & Mishti came up and played with her in rain, consoled her - I literally wanted to run out of my room and hug my own mother because that's just who they are! They can be mad with us but they are the ones who picks up our pieces at our most vulnerable phase.
And how can I forget the ending, when Mishti is diagnosed with cancer but Cheeni still breaks the protocol and takes her to her cousin's Sangeet, knowing how much her mother loved dancing and the mother-daughter duo dance. I was... 😭 😭 😭
The actors were good but as usual, I found whenever Madhumita tried to scream, it came out more like screeching and looked fake. Aparajita Adhya (The mother) was flawless. The entire movie belongs to her. 👏 👏 👏
