Maybe try reading along with the audiobook, Diya! It helps me sometimes.

I think that’s the case with most classics. You can’t read more than a few pages at a time. The heavy language takes a while getting used to. I agree with you, an audiobook helps in getting through classics when you feel like you can’t proceed further. It helped me a lot when I was reading Anna Karenina.

Oh wow, Anam, I am so glad you loved it. I agree. I was a bit shocked when the twist came but like you said, this story is not about a victim getting justice. It's more focused on her self realisation. She is a tiring character to follow but the ending was the best part of the book, imo. It's not a happy one by any means but it's hopeful. All you can hope for is someday Vanessa will heal (how much ever you can from that sort of an experience).

I didn’t expect to like the book the way I did. I read Lolita and hated it so when I got to know that it was inspired by it, I was pretty sure I wouldn’t like it much. I’m glad I gave the book a chance. It made me read something different from what I normally read. Thanks once again!

I read Behind Closed Doors a few months after it came out. I liked the first 100 pages or so of the book and after that it went downhill for me. BA Paris has an interesting way of writing, though. Dilemma has been on my TBR. I’m always up to read new thrillers.

I just started reading it last night and I’m 40 pages in. Since it’s a trilogy I think the first 100-150 pages must have been introducing the characters in detail and laying the foundation for the story to unfold.

youll love astrid <3

btw anam, you can call me Hinna

@Hinna: I’m happy I don’t have to call you Unique sheep any longer 😛

Lolita is a classic by Vladimir Nabokov. It’s a story about an older man falling for a 13 year old girl. It’s a disturbing and unsettling book.

I’m looking forward to reading Astrid’s story since both, you & Shanam have been raving about that part of the book.

Oh I like reading different/taboo topics. Especially when they center around young girls. I will check it out for sure. It sounds dark. Just my type hehe.

Astrid is the strongest character in the book you will love her. Rachel was not well written imo.

Oh no.

Behind Closed Doors comes in the list of my favourite books and thrillers usually never become favorites for me!

Please don't go expecting a thriller from The Dilemma. It's just adult fiction basically. I was so mad at the fact that it was marketed wrongly.

Now that you say that too, I'll keep that in mind before taking up his books. But finishing Anna Karenina still is an achievement...feels like a milestone in classic reading, so that's great. And you enjoyed it too, so that gives me encouragement.

When you read a classic, read a contemporary book alongside otherwise reading a classic can get tedious. Also, be prepared for it to take months to finish reading.

I'm going to take up the shortest book, whichever that is. I also got my hand on Maupassant's short story collection a while back and was liking it but had to stop due to exams. Now, I might give it another try.

Let me know how you like the short story collection.

If you like dark novels, read My Dark Vanessa; it’s a good one.
