They were standing in the dark in this scene. When Bon lit the fire, there was light around them and Ani had his smile back. Like, there was darkness for few moments due to someone else, both of them were not happy and Ani showed Bon a way, following which she brought back the light and smile on their faces.

Am I even making any sense? 😕

And yes you are making sense Ani was going through a turmoil when he gave Bon the punishment, as we saw how sad he was when he was applying haldi on her hands, we can say how bad he felt. So it was darkness while Bon was rubbing the wood, it resembles that to learn something she has to struggle. As soon as the fire lit up, darkness was gone and Bon along with other girls learnt their lesson as well, it signifies that with hard work , there might be darkness and turmoil for a while but the result is always bright!
