Actually I have read alot that britishers doesn't wanted indians to become superior to them. Also one has to complain in britishers parliament for any Britisher activity ...But who will complaint against them? Yes they were not allowed make fun.

They were totally against it, Shreya.

They knew that education would empower the public and they would intensify the revolt against british rule. Back then, when literacy rates were low, people used to idolize the freedom fighters and follow them... Imagine what it would have been if every person was educated and empowered...? Every one would have been as famous as Gandhi, Netaji and Bhagat Singh.

British knew that as long as they are uneducated, farming and cow grazing population, they will be easily oppressed.
