Chapter 12

Ruks was tailing Jo’s taxi. Her head had lost all reason. For all these ten years she had been with Jalal, expectant that some day his heart would warm. She was the only one he had, ten long years back, when he was nothing but an emotional wreck…She didn’t even ask him what broke him, and yet took as much care of him, as she could, and as much he would let her..And then came Abdul and Mirza, when Ruks realized that for Jalal there wasn’t much difference between her and them…He regarded her same as them..”Friends”…People he cherished and loved, but only as friends…People he would do anything for, yet would keep the distance..People he would stand by, yet would never unveil his heart to them..

How much Ruks wanted this to change..How much she wished Jalal would see her affections for him…But he always deterred…Overly conscious and clear so that she never gets mistaken…She even tried to talk him into accompanying her to public platforms, and let the people talk and gossip about them..maybe then he would be forced to think otherwise…But even that effort of hers went futile…The rage she felt for her hopeless feelings was infinite..

The only comfort and hope for her was that atleast Jalal was cold as same to everyone…Never in these ten years had he let anyone into his heart, let alone his thoughts..But, this girl, this Heer…as if she broke the mirror Jalal was trapped in, and set him free…Never had Ruks ever seen Jalal so smitten…so hopelessly in love…as if she is the only one he has eyes for…He couldn’t even resist acknowledging his affections for Jo, that too while Ruks was standing just next to him…Did he think so little of Ruks?? Did her feelings for him were so meaningless that he didn’t even bother considering that she might get hurt..Its not like jalal doesn't know what Ruks feels for her…Why did he have to crush her hopes that bad??Even if he was always adamant in ensuring her that he didn’t feel the same way..why did he have to be this cruel???

All because of this woman…Ruks gritted her teeth and moisture spread over her lashes…She hated Jo, because probably she was incapable of hating Jalal…Jo was like a reality check, and Ruks somehow was not in a state to accept it…The resentment had charred her heart pure black..

Fuming with relentless rage, Ruks sped up…She had no idea why she was tailing Jo? What did she want to do? Is she trying to harm her, push her taxi off the lane?? When suddenly her phone rang..She looked into the display panel of her car, it was Abdul…She let the phone ring unanswered. But Abdul was adamant, he kept on calling until enraged Ruks picked the call..

Abdul: Ruks?? Ruks?? Can you hear me??

Ruks remained silent..

Abdul (enraged): Answer me,, damn it…Are you listening..

Ruks still did not respond..By then, Abdul could see Ruks car in the lane right to his, speeding ahead of him..

Abdul (trying to compose himself): Look Ruks I know about the proposal..I can even relate to why you did, what you did- You’re angry at Heer…Believe me, when I say, I know the feeling…But trust me Ruks, this ain’t you…

Ruks remained silent..

Abdul (continued): This was never Heer's fault to begin with..Is Jalal not allowed to be happy for once..Who would know better than us, better than you, how dead he has been for all these years..Didn’t you always try your best to keep him happy..Why would you resent him now, when that’s exactly what you had wanted for him, all this time?

If Ruks was trying to restrain her tears, she failed..They flooded..

Abdul: We can choose whom to love, but we cant force them to reciprocate it…You get it, don’t you?? And we sure can not hold anyone responsible for this. You're angry at Jalal, and you're taking it out on Heer..Thats just not fair..Thats not the YOU, I know, I care for..

Ruks kept crying silently…The rage was dissolving and the excruciating pain of reality was surfacing…Damn Abdul. He always softens her..And he was right afterall...Ruks WAS venting out her anger for something she was never destined for, to begin with...and worst of all on someone, who had no fault in all this..

Abdul heard the painstricken shudders, and knew she must be soaking in her silent tears..

Abdul: Talk to me please..Say something..Pull over Ruks, for God sake please…I wont ever let you do anything regretful…I just cant…I cant bear to see you ruining yourself...

Abdul’s word somehow struck the delusional fog hovering around Ruks mind…She felt her senses restored. But the worst to happen was already in play. She looked ahead and realized that she was dangerously close to the taxi, she had been tailing, the one Jo was riding…And she was at such a high speed that even if she tried to hit the breaks, the collision with the taxi ahead was inevitable… In a fit of panic, and finding no other way to stop colliding with Jo, she moved her steering to the next lane to propel her car away from Jo’s, and this brought Ruks car in direct line against the divider…

Abdul could see clearly that Ruks made a sudden turn afront in his lane, probably to avoid the collision with the car in her front..He yelled while still being on call with Ruks, “Watch out”, and sped up his car, propelling himself between the divider of the road and Ruks car…The two cars (Abdul’s and Ruk’s) collided while Ruks vehicle defected away from divider and halted. Abdul’s vehicle got squeezed between the divider and Ruks car…His car tumbled and rolled over the divider, two to three times in that massive collision..The entire traffic came to halt with a jolt…

Missing the collision barely Jo’s taxi driver shuddered and pulled his taxi over the road, close to where the collision had happened…

Taxi driver: We barely escaped the collision maam…Seems a horrible accident…

Jo was immersed in thoughts when her trance was broken by the loud sound of collision, right next to her…She peeked out of the window, when the taxi stopped, and looked over her shoulder..Ruks car had skid and halted right behind her…Still tied to her seatbelt, with a bleeding forehead, hanging on one side, she looked unconscious…

Completely shocked at what she was seeing, Jo hurried off the taxi and ran towards Ruks…She reached towards her door, trying to open it…The window shield had broken, and Jo held Ruks head, mildly shaking her as to see if she was conscious and breathing…The crowd had gathered, and Jo was helplessly trying to yell and free Ruks from the restraint of the seat belt..Ruks mildly opened her eyes, and whispered something…Jo sighed in relief, and brought her face close to Ruks mouth..Ruks whispered again, “Abdul…Help, help him…I dont see him…the other car..please..”

As if the day could get any worse, Jo felt a shiver ran down her body head to toe…By then, the traffic officials had come to Ruks car as well…Jo could hear them calling the ambulance…With a hammering heart Jo rushed towards the other car, that seemed badly crushed and was lying on the road upside down…The traffic policemen had already pulled someone out of the car..She pushed them hard to get to Abdul but was restrained by one of the officer,

Officer (sternly): Maam??

Jo struggled and sobbed, “Please, I need to see…he might be a friend”

The officer released Jo, and she rushed over to where Abdul was being pulled out…It was indeed him, badly wounded, bleeding and unconscious…

Jo (broke down): NO…NOOO….ABDUL???Can you hear me,,,please please…What do I do???

The officers were trying to assess the scenario of the accident, and Jo heard the bystanders clearing the situation that probably the woman’s car had lost control, and in an attempt to avoid accident she changed lane…When the man in the car from the behind saved her from deadly collision, intentionally, and got messed up instead..

Jo looked at the traffic policemen, who informed that the ambulance is right around the corner and that they would be taking them both to the hospital…

Jo (crying): He is my friend…and the other one, over there in the car…she is too..please please help…please be quick…

The ambulance had arrived and Ruks and Abdul both being unconscious were taken to the hospital. Jo accompanied them..although Ruks was saved by Abdul from being badly hurt…He himself was extremely critical, barely breathing…

Jo was so awfully panicked and nervous that she could feel a reverberating ACHE in her head..she looked around but realized that in all the havoc, she had forgotten her bag and phone in the taxi itself…She had to call…had to call jalal or Shibani or Adi…someone had to inform Jalal…But how…The extreme traumatic recollection of her father’s demise in the exact very same situation, and NOW the nauseating repeat of the memory, LIVE AGAIN, threatening the life of Abdul took a deadly toll and Jo felt a warm trickle of blood dripped off her nose..Realizing that her body is succumbing to the trauma, she wiped off the blood, without drawing attention of the medical attendants in the ambulance who were struggling to keep in check the uncontrollable loss of blood that was pushing Abdul closer to Jo’s worst nightmare…

Jo mildly touched Ruks and then took Abdul’s hand in her own, as if refusing to succumb to the dread and whispered mildly, “lets not give up…Lets hang in there..Lets fight it for the people we love and care”…The ambulance sped up to the hospital.

Unaware of all that had happened, Jalal who had been desperately trying to reach Jo and Abdul since past hour, was rushing towards the COSMOS…For some reason an unknown fear had crept up in his heart…He was nervous, agitated, and couldn’t shake off the dread that was creeping in his heart…he had been trying to reach Jo since the moment the leak had surfaced..But she never picked up..And now Abdul who earlier was busy on call with someone, wasn’t responding…With a hammering heart Jalal kept driving while Mirza kept on calling Abdul, when suddenly after unanswered rings…some one picked the call.

Mirza: Abdul? Where the hell have you been man? We’ve been trying to reach you since past hour…

Unrecognized voice: Hello? Are you an acquaintance to the owner of the phone? Sir, there has been an ugly accident…The victims have been taken to the hospital.. The man seemed critical, we’ve been trying to ID him and the other woman, who got injured in the accident…Please arrive as early as you can..

The officer on the other side of the phone, mentioned the name and address of the hospital that Mirza could barely hear. And the call was disconnected.

Unable to speak, Mirza looked at Jalal and Jalal knew something was wrong..

Mirza panicked, “Accident…he has gotten into an accident..and critical…City hospital…A woman too…Could it be Heer???

Sweat broke onto Jalal’s body and he felt as if his heart stopped. He immediately turned the car towards the said hospital..A choking pain shot up his throat, spreading through his face, moistening his eyes…He shook off his head as to stop the moisture pooling into his eyes…This cant be happening…Not AGAIN…He can not afford to lose any of them AGAIN…He wont allow either of them, to do this to him AGAIN…His heart and mind kept wailing the same mantra over and over again, “Please Jo, Please Abdul…Have mercy on me…Don’t you two dare to do this to me…Just Hang in for my sake”…

although this update still hovers around Abdul...but we will be closing in on Jo and Ja soon enough..I think I was a lil bit stung by second lead syndrome...

yup...i gave more space to Abdul, in this update..I dont know why but I couldnt stop myself from seeing him as a cure for burning Ruks :P

I'm sorry I'm just not being regular..lot of stuff goin on, and on top of that I failed my driving test..so you can imagine heavy heart freezes my fingers :(
