Part 5: Death Spiral
Bani almost felt bad for a moment. Kashish seemed really sad.
"Kashish, dekh, don't feel bad. It is okay. Someday everyone has to return to their home." Bani tried to ease Kashish.
"But woh kitna cute tha..." She complained.
"Sweetheart, kitna sad kar diya tumne apni friend ko." Veer teased her.
"Shut up." She told him. She hugged her from the side to comfort her. Bani looked sad too, Veer sighed.
"Acha, get up." Veer told Kashish.
"Veer, kya kar rahe ho?" Bani asked him.
"Sweetheart, trust me." Veer told her. Kashish stood up.
"Come." He told her.
"Hum bhi aae, Veer bhai?" Ponky asked.
"Aao. Kabab mein haddi. Mujhe akela kab chodte ho." Veer retorted at them. "Shukla, jeep ki keys do."
Shukla gives him the key.
"Aao." He told them all.
"Veer, kahan jaa rahe hai?" Bani asked him. He offered her his hand. She took it. Kashish follwed them.
"Bas tum chalo toh sahi, sweetheart." He told her walking backwards.
All of them got on the jeep. Daksh, Monil, Ponky and Kashish sitting behind. Veer driving and Bani next on the passenger seat. Veer started driving towards the parag pahadi.
"Veer, hum yaha kyu aaye hai?" Bani asked him.
"Jaan, matlab, tumhe toh apni friend se zyada excitement ho rahi hai. Bechari ko zyada pareshaan hona chahiye." He teased her. Bani hit him. "Gaadi chala raha hun, Control."
Why did Bani expect him to give her a straight answer when he's in the mood to surprise? He's always like that.
"Kashish, hold the handle and stand up." Veer told her. Kashish did so.
"Careful." Bani told Kashish. Soon enough, Veer sped up. The air rushing through her. Veer signalled Bani not to say anything.
"Aankeh band karo." He told her. Kashish followed and closed her eyes. The air felt so fresh, cool and almost felt like peace. She opened her arms. It felt so beautiful in that moment.
They reached as far as they could with the car. After that they proceeded on foot. Bani knew that it was one of Veer's favourite places. Exactly like a cheel, he loved high rise place. He had a tree house on one of the tallest trees in the hills. You could almost see the whole place from there.
Veer took Kashish to the edge of the hill. The tallest peak at the hills. There were bird flying there.
"Look there." Veer showed to Kashish. "Remember how it felt when air rushed through you? Now imagine the same feeling without any bars restricting you from that height. Just gliding through the air. Flying through the air current, the soft caress of the cool air that come from the clouds. The feeling of being at the top of the world."
He showed her those birds flying in the air. Two kites were flying through the air exactly next to each other. It almost seemed like acrobatics. Steep turns and dives. It was a beautiful sight. They flew around each other. Sometimes one ahead and then the other would fly ahead only to turn around the other. It almost seemed like they were playing in the air.
"Think of the fact that all birds have that. All those birds have those ability to fly, well let's not speak of exceptions, but majorly all birds have that. To spread those wings and fly through the sky. Could the most exquisite food you can give match up to the feeling of air air brushing through you. Imagine being able to fly exactly like that with your mate? There are few birds who fly far far away solo but always come back to that one place and to the same mate. They go so far away, almost to different to continent but come back to the same mate and same nest. It is their home. The same way, when you really love them, set them free, they will come back to you. Caging someone isn't going to get you their love. Trust me, even I thought that if I tie her to me, she'll understand that I love her. Until I set her free, she didn't realize that I really love her. It took a while but it came back to me. She came back to me. Till then, love. Just go on loving." Veer told her. "You can bring them the most exquisite cages and the most exotic food but it still remains a cage."
Kashish just stared at the birds. It was beautiful sight.
"Maybe Veer also went back to his mate." Kashish wondered. Veer put his arm around Bani's neck and looked at her.
"True." He prompted. Bani wrapped her arms around him. He winked at her.
"It is actually pretty, you know. I mean them flying like that." Bani teased him. Veer grinned at her.
"Sweetheart, it is beautiful but not crazy enough for Veeranshu Singhania. There is a reason why Veeranshu Singhania is a cheel." He told her.
"Please. Those birds are not crazy. You are crazy." Bani said.
"Just wait. I'll show you." Veer challenged her.
After a few hours, Kashish and the boys started trekking ahead into the forest. Bani was about to follow but Veer stopped her.
"Do you trust me?" He asked her.
"Veer, kaise sawaal kar rahe ho?"
"Sawaal toh sawaal hai, sweetheart."
"Of course."
He offered her his hand. She placed her hand in his. He pulled her close to him.
"Hold on tight, sweetheart."
He had just finished saying that when he took off from the hill. His wings fluttering at he flew higher in the air. Bani held on tighter. Veer had saved her several times like this and taken her off flying but still, she hadn't gotten the hang of it. They were flying even more higher than usual.
"Veer, this is a little too high. Even paragliding doesn't take people this high." Bani said.
"Ready? I'll show you the eagle crazy." Veer winked at her.
"Veer, I don't th-- aaaaahhhhhh." She screamed loudly. Free fall. Just a few moments ago they were gliding across the air and now, he had stopped flying. Veer just looked at her. Bani's heart accelerated just as fast as they were diving. The way Veer was looking at her made her stop. His eyes intensely staring into her soul. That deja vu.
Aakesh. He looked at her exactly the same way as he falling down when she threw him off the cliff. Bani's heart was beating so fast but she couldn't take her eyes of him. The fear of the fall and the intensity of his look. His wings were folded.
He held her and dived down with his back facing the ground. She was on top of him. His arms around her. He brushed the hair out of her hair and pushed it behind her ear. She wrapped her arms around his neck. He held her face and kissed her. His eyes closed. Bani couldn't keep her eyes open. He flipped over and her back faced the ground. Veer locked his legs with her like talon locking. Bani has stopped thinking about the worry and her eyes focused right on him. They spiralled through the fall.
"Tum mujhe dekhna aur main tumhe dekhunga. Kasam se kahin aur nahi dekh paaunga." She remembered the time he had said that. It was they first day after they married. She was bruised and he had put the ointment on her bruise.
"Veer, I love you." She said and kissed him.
Exactly when they were close to the ground, he twirled, letting his back face the ground. Suddenly, the wings burst open before they fell on the ground and quickly fluttered and they took off back up in the air.
"Jitna ek cheel ko uske pankh zaroori hai, jitna insaan ke liye saansein zaroori hai, utna hi tum mere liye zaroori. Tumhare pyaar mein toh maut bhi qubool hai, Bani." He told her. His eyes never leaving her.
"Veer, I sometimes feel ki tum mujhse peecha chudana chahte ho." She said. Without a warning, there was another fall.
"Aaahhh... Veer..." She shouted with the suddeness of it. It was her inner serpent that was always more scared of the fall. She knew that Veer would never let her be hurt at all. There was no doubt in that but her serpent instincts didn't falter. Veer worked on his instincts. This dive and fly exercise was very natural to Veer but not to Bani.
"Bani, mere liye tumse dur jaana is exactly like this fall. Only without being able to ever fly up again. Aur yeh odd thought kyu aaya tumhare dimaag mein?"
"Because tum humesha hi marne ki baat karte ho. Mere saath rehna hota toh hum mere saath rehne ki baat karte, marne ki nahi."
"Sweetheart, tumhara saath mere liye sabse khoobsurat khwaab jaisa hai. Abh itna khoobsurat khwab aaye toh tootne ka darr toh hoga na."
"You know Veer, tum pagal ho. Even crazy logo ke beech bhi tum ajeeb pagal ho. Kabhi kabhi itne possessive ho jaate ho ki kisi ne galti se bhi mere saath flirt kar de toh uski halat kharab kar dete ho aur kabhi kabhi itne chill ho jaate ho ki mujhe khud samajh nahi aata. Kabhi kehte ho ki mujhe kabhi bhi nahi chodo ge and har janam mere saath hi aaoge aur kabhi marne ki baat karte ho. Tumhe samajhna itna difficult hai."
Before she could even touch the ground, he took her up again.
"Veer, mera na dil bohot teez ho raha hai. Ab ek aur baar aise dive karoge toh, i swear main behosh jo jaaungi." She told him.
He picked her up in his arm as he usually does and landed. He put her down. She took a few deep breathes to calm down her heart. She almost stumbled but Veer held her. He laughed.
"Veer, tum pagal ho. Aise koi daraata hai kya??" She hit him. He wrapped his arms around him from the behind.
"Sweetheart, mere hote hue kis baat ki fikar hai?" He asked her.
"Tum pagal aur ajeeb ho. Main nahi. I'm very normal." Bani retorted.
"Ya, right. Adi-naagin hona normal hai, right?"
"Shut up. Yeh kya tha? Mujhe heart attack aa jaata agar ek aur baar aise dive karte toh. Yeh pagalpan kabse chada tumhe? Kahin pure pagal toh nahi ho gaye. Cheel Singhania, tum ud sakte ho, main nahi."
He turned her around and she faced him. He pushed her against a tree.
"Tumhara pyaar chad gaya hai, sweetheart. Abh pehele aadha pagal tha kyuki is relationship mein sirf main tha but jabse tumne confess kiya hai tabse pura pagal ho gaya hun. Jahan dekhu waha tum dikhti ho. Nashe mein bhi aur hosh mein bhi. Itna pyaar mil jaaye toh koi deewana pagal kaise na ho."
He took a look at her from top to bottom. She was wearing yellow saree. A grin slowly spread his face. His eyes stopped at her waist. The four inch gap that peeked from the saree wrap had his eyes change from intense to mischievous.
"Veer, tumhare iraade kuch sahi nahi lag rahe."
"Have you heard of the phrase, 'When life gives you lemons, you make a lemonade out of it'? Tum na mujhe mera chalta phirta lemonade lag rahi ho."
He let his fingers tease her waist. He kissed her while holding her. His grip was possessive but his hands were warm. He was like a predator while he declared her as his. Bani would always accuse him that he always did some magic because he could easy transfer his lust hazed thought to her simply with a touch. His fingers would tease the touch on her waist and suddenly his hands would grab her. Satisfying his inner hunter. She grabbed him, it was just as strong as coils around the serpent's prey. They could try and escape but those hypnotic eyes wouldn't let him go.
"Uhmm Uhmmm...."
"Get lost." Veer told them off.
"Veer bhai, jungle mein mangal karne ke liye koin aur time nikal lo. Abhi ghar jana padega." Daksh told them.
"Shut up and get lost." Veer flipped them his middle finger.
"Rude. Super rude. Aise baat karte hai bhaiyon se?" Ponky shook his head. Veer sighed and let his head rest on Bani's shoulder. Bani laughed.
"Kabab mein haddi. Saale bhai se zyaada mere dushman ban gaye hai." Veer mumbled. Bani put her arm on his shoulder.
"Sad, isn't it? Mere liye yeh, buy one get three free jaisa ho gaya hai. Maine toh sirf ek museebat apne sar li thi but yeh teeno free mein mil gaye mujhe." Bani said. Veer gave her a dry laughter.
"How funny."
"Anyway, chalein?" Monil asked.
"Acha khasa feeling ban raha hai, puri feeling ki le li." Veer complained. Ponky went on flirting with Kashish, Kashish just laughed it off. Veer put his leg before Ponky and he tripped down.
"Aaa..." He groaned.
"Kya hua? Aaram se chal, Ponky. Kahin phisal se gira toh haddiyan toot sakti hai." Veer taunted him. His look very clear to his brother, 'Tit for tat'. Daksh and Monil laughed at that.
"Tum kya has rahe ho? Help karo." Veer told them. Both of them went to help Ponky. They knew, both of them were going to be Veer's next targets.
