Yes, me too. I get a rough idea but I thought if there's anyone who can actually understand the meaning, it will be helpful for us na

And if they'll not show it like this way, marathi people will surely object. I've seen people questioning about a show based on Bengali culture as actors were not that thorough with Bengali accent.

I completely agree. When the show is about a Marathi family they should adopt their culture. In fact its interesting to see all these. It's kind of new for me. That's the reason I thought it as a good opportunity to understand the culture of Maharashtra. I'm fond of learning new languages and their cultures so for me, it's a win win situation 😆

Ukhana is a short poem that newly weds recite at special occasions like first meal after the wedding or grahpravesh. And they have to insert their spouse's name in it. I gues this is becuase in earlier times neither husband nor wife used to address each other by their names so this gave one opportunity to do so 😳

Malhar or Khandoba raya is deity in Maharshtra and considered as incarnation of Shiva. I am not sure in what context it is used in the show but typically newly weds go visit Khandoba temple

Feel free to ask more questions, I would be happy to answer my best ⭐️

Hey Manju! that's so sweet of u. I think I know u from YRHPK forum. I wasnt active there coz it's difficult for me to catch up with all the posts.😆 But I remember reading your posts. How are you?

Ukhana is so interesting! Now I get it. I thought its just a poem but I didnt know that they should insert their spouse's name in it. Wow :)

Khandoba raya- I found out through google 😆

One more- I didn't observe it in any hindi serial where girl's parents washes the guy's feet. We have that custom but I didnt know that it's the same in Maharashtra too. Is it so? Actually here, the bride's brother does that.

I'll keep posting my doubts here. Thank u so much :)

Khandoba is the God in maharashtra ...marathi people generally are followers of Khandoba. He is believed to be lord shiva's avtar.

Thank you Anjali! Ukhane seems so interesting yaar :))

I completely agree. In fact, this is one of the best things I love about the show. How true they are to the Maharashtrian culture. My parents though not Maharashtrian, can speak Marathi and said that it's all accurate. Plus, most of the actors are also Maharashtrians. I'd rather not understand all of it and let it be authentic instead of the kind of mockery they do in Yeh Hai Chahatein and Yeh Hai Mohabbatein. It is so infuriating when they show a character as Tamilian but literally nothing about them is Tamilian. Kudos to Team GHKKPM for perfectly capturing Maharashtra.

Yes, even I like it that they didnt ruin the essence of the culture they decided to show!

Even I want it to be authentic. That's the reason I thought of creating this thread so that people like me can understand these things. We should get the feel that we are actually seeing a Maratha family. Only then the connection will be there na :)

Tell me about YHM! They showed the family as Tamilians but they were reading Telugu newspaper Also, not all the words are Tamil words. It indeed is a mockery of the culture. But atleast they showed the wedding properly over there.

Kudos to the GHKKPM team indeed! 👏

Is it? If you don't mind me asking, is your mother tongue Hindi?

My mom started watching Hindi serials to learn hindi and I used to watch them with her. That's how it all started for me.

Now I'm planning to learn a little bit of Marathi too 😆

Bold - hey 🤗 that's so cool to know. I'm doing ok, how's it going with you?

Yeah ukhana concept is pretty cool 😎

Bold and italic - Yeah there is a custom like that. But I attended my cousin brother's wedding a few years back and his mom refused to let the bride's parents to follow this ritual. That earned her a lot of accolades from most and some frowning from few family members 😆

Sure, I will try to answer to my best 😃
