WHY? Confusion

If the storyline has no connection fine its a alternate story but why did they show flashbacks with the entire family including kids and grandkids. They could of showed the married scene with Gopi mom and dad and sister there without having the kids in the show. So they are continuing the story then which is weird as they all look young now. So they continuing with the story but the age will just be ignored
