hi i just wanted to give my 2 cents on the regressive/progressive theme of KZK2. Back when KZK1, KGGK, KSBBT etc came on they were called progressive because they were women centric. at that time it wasn't common for women to have a voice, opinions, self-confidence or the option of moving on from a marriage etc. in spite of how her shows were i.e the story or themes, the females were the focus & the driving force behind the narrative. that wasn't the norm therefore they were termed progressive.
i admit that nowadays the content of all shows are almost identical, they consist of the same, couple's separating & uniting for umpteenth times with a misogynistic ML 🙄 so the multiple marriages plot they decided to go with was doomed from the start 🙄
she dropped the ball in terms of the characterisation of Prerna. she wanted to correct her mistakes, only she knows what they were but I'm guessing it had to do with Anurag's character & the emphasis on AnuPre's love story. (i won't talk about the love aspect, it's done to death 😒). in the process of making Anu's character the focus of KZK the CV's completely ignored Prerna. there was no consistentency at all, one minute she was sassy & threatning Komo & the next...nothing . her importance was in relation to Anu & that's all 🙄 she was never given an identity outside of being 1 half of AnuPre 😒
for a show set in the modern times there was nothing modern about Prerna. she had no goals outside of marrying Anu or marrying to save Anu. i mean they could have given her career aspirations as well. Erica's forte is playing a stronger, sassy character, she's weaker in emotional scenes IMO, but they hardly utilised this at all. being a character of a loving nature doesn't mean you have to be meek, submissive & dumb. the makers never invoked any sympathy or empathy for her from the audience. even her pain as a mother was turned into a joke 🙄 it's shameful & sad. Prerna's identity was constantly sacrificed in favour of Anu or any other character.
for e.g they could have allowed her to stand up for herself & become a strong single mother or fight & be sassy against RB in the marriage or come bank for revenge as Prerna Sharma instead of Prerna Bajaj 🙄. a better ending would have been if she forgave Anu but refused to trust him & Anu would have promised to gain both her trust & love again. this would have been a nice reset & do justice for everything Prerna went through.
All this made her a very regressive heroine & unrelatable to the audience. this was a huge part of why KZK2 didn't work as well as expected, IMO.
